Having just done the Brecons in Wales I got over excited and have booked another driving trip to the Peak District! Never been, so would love some recommendations for great driving routes, nice stop offs, lunch spots etc pretty please :)

Am staying in South Normanton, Derbyshire DE55 2EH, but have car, will travel!

Many thanks in advance.

Could be a long list......

There are some great roads and places to eat in Derbyshire....

Road wise you must do the Woodhead,Snake pass,Winnats pass and the Cat and fiddle...

Nice places...

Buxton
Castleton
Bakewell
Matlock
Ashbourne
Tissington village

All are served with nice pubs and cafes for a stop off....

Im sure you will have a good time..:)

Baslow and the surrounding area is lovely (Chatsworth House for example) and worth a look whilst you're up here but it can get very busy. Lots of nice places to eat. Some are very nice but have very nice prices too. Peacock Rowsley, Cavendish Hotel, Fischers.

The Devonshire Arms in Baslow is apparently quite good - and more reasonable price too.

Closer to your hotel there's the Elm Tree, Heath which is a nice pub and one junction up the M1. Don't bother going out in South Normanton though!

Lovely thanks all. I'll look into all of those tips over the next couple of weeks and post any more specific questions :)

As a Baslow resident I thought I'd Just mention if you're thinking of this run, the Peacock, Cavendish and Fischers all need pre- booking, the Devonshire in Baslow is open all day, accross the road is the Wheatsheaf with a huge beer garden and kids play area, no need to book for either, the Dev is the best of the 2 mind. Also the Eyre Arms at Calver has just re-opened after a re-furb, seating available outside, although I hav'nt been in yet, and accross the road from that is Palmers cafe joined on to a big spar if you just want a very good bacon sarnie and mug of tea etc.

All the best roads have been covered- if you do woodhead I live in Penistone at the foot of woodhead if you want a break or coffee. Sadly I wont be able to join you for a hoon as my z still needs to be fixed following my bump.

John-e89, I know the clue might be in the name but.
We drive through Baslow most weekends (all year) to walk the dogs in Chatsworth, on the outskirts usually parked up is a very nice E85 black with mv2's.
I wondered if it was a forum member, Is it you ?

Apologies for thread hijack.

Hi Grumpyowl, I know which zed you mean, it's a peachy one but no it's not mine, I live at the other end of the village near the Cavendish and mine's a black E89. I don't know who it belongs to tbh. Not sure if this is of any interest to you and I don't know if you park in Chatsworth itself or not but you can park in Baslow village and walk into the park through the spinning gate, if you turn right up Eaton Hill by Il'Lupo's Italian restaurant and go up there you can park on the street, very safe, and walk back down between the Devonshire arms and sweet gene's sweet shop, over the little hump back bridge and turn right it's only couple of hundred yards into the park, save you the car parking fee.

Yes John-e89 I know that entrance, we occasionally pop through for an ice cream in the summer,
we buy an annual car park pass.
They don't seem to publicise it very well, maybe they don't want a large uptake.
For the last few years we've paid £50 for the car park pass and you can use it as often as you like in either car park.
We do very well out of it. Based on £3 at the house, if you go as regular as we do it would cost us at least £150.
