Says here the girl died of a Heroin Overdose .............

After reading all the "tragic" stories in the press , and hearing Big Bob on the Telly ................ don't know if it is just me
but ..... Feck .......

She was a Junkie, she chose to use Heroin ........ Heroin User's die, its very simple ...... move on.
Don't have any sympathy at all for Junkies and object to having their sob stories shoved in my face .........

Rant Over ...........

I'm guessing she had some serious issues with addiction and the loss of her mother in similar circumstances; and who knows if it was deliberate or not. Regardless, she was a mother in charge of her 12 month old baby at the time and arguably you got to be pretty f*cked up to engage in drug activity in that situation. The very sad thing is that now her kids to be under the same spotlight in the future. Will they/wont they go off the rails like their mother/grandmother.

All I will say a junkie in Glasgow dying in similar circumstances with children involved, would not be called a "tragedy" and celebrated by the media.....

I see Sky are proudly trumpeting this in their news, but the initial toxicology report was supposedly inconclusive. I believe they're going to state the cause at the inquest so let's see what comes out.

Yet again, it looks like some toady has leaked info to journalists, probably for cash.

And +1 to NDB's comment...

Isn't that because a junkie in Glasgow isn't generally part of the media or celebrity world though?

It's on the front page of the Times today as well.

I agree with NDB but that's the cult of celebrity that we all buy into to a greater or lesser extent.

Inkeys - That wasn't quite my point. My point was that a Glagow junkie would not receive pity although she may well have lost a parent in similar circumstances, but rather be vilified for being a bad mother, a scurge on society, etc. I do take the point about celebrity, but personally I feel ANYONE who does that with children present is a bad mother whatever the circumstances. Peaches is not a tragedy she is what happens when you make certain lifestyle choices.

This is my point. It's being reported because people want to read about and comment on it. This thread in itself is a reaction to a public facing figure that's died. I don't think it's wrong to report on such matters since that's what the media does. At one end of the spectrum you have wars and at the other you have celebrity. Its the wonderful world of 'news'.

Agree NDB that with her kids present it was a truly awful decision but again, I'm guessing that when you're an addict, correct choices in life aren't what you'd call regular.

Any death from heroin should be thought of as tragic. Any child that loses a parent we should pity.
The difference between Peaches & Paula is they were 'celebrities' and so reported and photographed and written about in papers & mags because our society soaks it up.
This is why there's a difference between the woman in Glasgow and any celebrity. The media will wring it for every shock factor drop.
The fact she took heroin with a child present? That could be looked at in one of two ways.
She was a troubled young woman with an addiction. Suffering because of her past experiences and turned to drugs for comfort.
Or
She was a selfish woman. Putting a 'perfect mother' face to the world whilst using hard drugs in front of her kids.

I do feel sorry for all of them but it's their choice to put this stuff in their bodies in the first place. There's always a first time and once done that's the chance gone to say no and so history repeats itself.
Did she not ever think what she went through and she was putting her kids at risk of that too? :headbang:

If it's true I'm not surprised one bit. It's a tragedy for the kids - she, however, was simply stupid and selfish. I get that addictions are an illness, but she and her family have the means to treat such an illness with the best possible medical and psychological help ; a junkie in Glasgow does not.

Interesting choice of city to use as an example NDB

I agree with Carol.

The other thing is why was the evidence removed ? was it just to avoid the publicity or to protect the supplier ?

A premature death is tragic whether it was caused by smack or anything. Whether it be in Glasgow, Bradford or London.... makes no difference IMO

It's really easy to be critical of other people's problems, particularly where drugs are involved, because let's face it, drugs are the devil right? And we're all conditioned from a young age to hate them.

Sometimes looking past the nasty drugs and understanding the real issues is difficult. I suspect the real issues will never be published, but plenty people will make lots of money from the heroin story......
