Hi,
I have a 2012 E89 2.3 sdrive, front and back parking sensors.
Quick question, although not a biggie for me, it seems that the front parking sensors do nothing when i park forward and go very close to any obstacle, like fences walls other cars etc., when i return to the car and start the engine they start beeping however? is there a setting for the PDC somewhere ?

Don't you think it would drive you mad if they were always active and thus everytime you got close to the car in front in a traffic line or a pedestrian crossed your sensors triggered a constant bleeping?
It's for that reason that cars' parking sensors activate when you engage reverse and then switch off once a predetermined speed is reached (i.e. your not likely to be parking)
If you go direct into a parking situation forward manually switch them on.
 
As advised above you have to activate them when not reversing. Here is the information as to where to find the button and PDC information from the handbook.
