I can confirm that the loose cable is for the PDC module. i just performed the OEM retrofit on my '03 as well. Had the pin out diagram and tested the voltage on it along with Fuse 8, before making my purchase

Dont forget to buy the PDC bracket for the Z4 (didnt cost a lot, roughly 30-40eu) and a gong. the PDC signal wire and voltage for the gong are prewired, hunt for them on the drivers side footwell. was a pia for me as the PDC signal wire was stuck behind the footrest (probably from the factory)

Dont bother getting it new, it costs like 80 euro. theres plenty on ebay. grabbed mine for 15 euro. Overall my retrofit cost me 250 eu which i think is a steal. especially since my previous bumper had damage from the previous owner.

Are you also aware of the coding required? the car needs to recognise the module and communicate with it via the K-bus line. you will need to edit your Vehicle order VO/FA and write it to your instrument cluster and lighting module

Thanks dude, will cross the coding lark when I come to it,not my forte but need to start understanding it,how did you do it?

I'll list down what was done. Had to grab this info from different parts of this forum, hope this is more centralized:
  • You need to use NCS Expert in factory/expert profile. some forums say you need Revtors profile but thats false. expert profile has manupilation set to 0, regular coding profile has it set to 1. for editing VO/FA we dont need manupilation.
  • in NCS Expert, hit Start>Chassis>e85>AKMB
  • Once this is done, the existing VO/FA should be obtained by NCS. This where the software knows which modules currently exist.
  • To add the PDC VO number, hit Edit VO/FA>E85>OK on VIN number box.
  • You will be presented with the VO box below, add $508 as an attribute to your vehicle order and hit OK
VOfa.jpg
  • Once this is done, go back, hit Process ECU, select AKMB, then change job to FA_WRITE and execute to the AKMB. You are now rewriting the VO list to the instrument cluster, which will now have the PDC module listed.

Repeat the steps above for the lighting module. because i have a Xenon car, its ALSZ for me. The reason it has to be done again is because the car operates a redundant system for the VO. In the event that the instrument cluster fails, the dealership can obtain the whole VO from the module that isnt kapot

Guess I’d better sort myself out a laptop and start playing, thanks once again.

Are these the connections for the gong?

Yep! Precisely. Buy a used gong from ebay, hook it up there. Leave the single pin white connector unplugged. That's for the reversing gong from the reverse sensor, which drives most people crazy. The black single pin connecter is is the gong signal from the PDC module

Thanks dude,
not sure what you mean reversing gong from the reversing sensor,I just remember the beep beep beeep whilst reversing on my blue z4 which had parking sensors, which is surely the point of them😉
I’ll pick a gong up from a forum member.

So one of em beeps constantly. Which indicates that you're in reverse (think of those industrial trucks reversing) and the other beeps when it detects objects behind you, that's the gong signal that goes to the PDC module

Oh ok.
I don’t remember this constant beep on my old z and it’s not on my e91 which has parking sensors.
Picture of my two together.

Most people have it disconnected / it's never been connected, worth giving it a try if you want
