Hi all,

I've been reading up on PDC retrofits and wondered if anyone had fitted one to their ///MR rear bumper? I've seen the instructions and kit number, but both appear to be from the US market. BMW in London cannot find a retrokit and suggested it was impossible (much like coding triple flash indicators :roll: )... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11703726/BMW%20PDC%20Retrofit.pdf

Failing that, has anyone a suggestion on aftermarket kits such as the Cobra system fitted here; http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=39315&hilit=parking

Thanks in advance all!

James

So I've been messing around with the info available today, as work is pretty quiet being the New Year...

So far, I've come to a few conclusions;

- the retrofit set outlined in the above instructions is not available in the UK and BMW UK have no clue about retrofitting of any kind, nor coding (at least the three garages I've contacted)...
- the above set is on back order in Germany and US with no knowledge of when it will be back in stock

This led me down the path of potentially making/gathering the kit myself... surely all Z4's will use the same parts and it just so happens that most are easily obtainable from eBay or BMW UK. I have spoken to a well known Indie garage and waiting on feedback of how long the OEM installation would take, thus how much labour would be charged. Once I have this, I think I'm going to start purchasing the individual parts from eBay etc...

I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi,

If it proves too much ££ to hassle this place (based in London) fits sensors that are as close to OEM as I was able to find. I've had them put on a 911 and an S2000.

go to gallery --> Porsche --> pics 6 & 7

they look better in real life. cost about £300 though.

Cheers

JE just retrofitted parking sensors to his Z4 and I believe he got the parts from bmminiparts

Thanks Terry - by JE do you mean JonnyEssex or JayEmm :thumbsup:

As an update from my end, I've spoken to Darren Wood in the NW and they've suggested with the OEM US instructions, they could do it, I just need to find the parts of the OEM kit. So as far as I can see;

- wiring loom (got)
- 4x sensors
- PDC Control Unit
- Gong

Out of interest, could someone post up a photo of where the PDC Control Unit is fixed, presumably to the back of the seats bulkhead as per the bluetooth module?

Many thanks!

Have a look at the PDF link in your first post which shows the location of the control module in the retrofit instructions :thumbsup:

imo i wouldnt bother getting oem ones... they look so ugly. :thumbsdown:

There was a member on here who got aftermarket ones fitted to the front of his car.. and they look more like the Audi ones and are flush fit and not recessed like oem bmw

I'd go aftermarket. The kits are pretty inexpensive and you can get colour coded, flush mounted sensors.

All the OEM one does is beep to tell you how close you're getting which is exactly the same as an aftermarket system.

Thanks guys, interesting you say that. Would you not think that detrimental to the ///M resale value?

Here is the thread with the good after market sensors.

TBH as long as you fitted in the exact OEM location I don't think it would cause you any issues come resale. The next owner could either remove and fill or convert to OEM if required. The look OEM, just not E85 OEM. More like other BM models. :thumbsup:

Aftermarket ones aren't going to add any value, but they aren't going to reduce it either.

That being said, is a there any difference in value between an M with PDC or without. I suspect not.
