PDC front and rear

Wow - I was hoping to do this this summer but UK weather in July wasn’t great band I was away and August has followed a similar pattern so far. Hope I can get to it before winter comes. How did your install go ? I see you disassembled things even more than when Dave did it…. Maybe you did some other stuff as well… :)

Here's some pictures of punching and installing the fronts... I think the outside ones I accidentally swapped, but it shouldnt matter since I dont have headlight washers. I used an 18.2mm punch which created nice relief in the cut - it is very snug. I used a razor blade or sanded the raised markers on the back of the bumper after the holes were punched to prevent them from setting the sensors back a half mm. The front mounts and wiring harness are OEM for the z4, so they included the cable management clips to attach to the bumper at appropriate locations.

Dave, do you have the pinout for this rear PDC connector? The retrofit instructions provide this harness in pieces without a diagram of which color goes where.

Second question... which foam "slot" does the pdc unit slide into.. the one marked in blue next to the hard top controller or the one somewhat parallel to the bumper marked in green? The pdc and go modules are almose identical in size.. It probably doesnt matter, but which setup is factory?

BTW.. it was a pain getting through the existing grommet.

Hopefully these will help....

So much easier when you know the pinout... i know i have the official manual somewhere.. just trying to get the bumper back on.

Added comfort access antenna as well

The blue slot is the correct one. The Passive Go module will be placed into the green slot.

  • Why cant the Germans use English abbreviations??
Well, that's quite easy.

br - braun / brown
bl - blau / blue
ge - gelb / yellow
gn - grün / green
gr - grau / grey
sw - schwarz / black
vi - violet / purple
ws - weiss / white

What's the problem? :D

Really funny is the historic evolution of the naming scheme of ECU's:
  • FRM - Fussraummodul
named after the location where it got placed at first in former BMW generations decades ago
  • EMF - Elektromagnetische Feststellbremse
named after it's intended function => Electronic Parking brake EPB
  • PDC - Park Distance Control
Indeed named directly in English! Cause in German we'd say Park Distanz Kontrolle or sth like that.
  • Modern BMW's are mainly controlled by the FEM's and REM's :D
Front Electronic Modul and Rear Electronic Modul
So we are on a steep learning curve, aren't we???

I'm pretty sure, if we have completed this transformation to a perfect English system in the future, nobody want's to buy a German car anymore. o_O
