Subject: FW: Badge Petition
It has been said if this wasn't so serious it would actually be
funny.

Apparently armed police patrolling Heathrow Airport, UK, have been banned
from wearing tiny Union Jack lapel pin badges in support of
British troops. Top brass claimed the tie-pin badges, which
cost £1 with proceeds going to the Help for Heroes charity were
offensive. But one officer asked:

"How can the Union Jack be offensive? This ruling is even more absurd coming this year when
we are marking the 65th anniversary of the WW2 D Day
landings. The UK must be the only country in the world that is
ashamed to display its national flag."

About 100 officers in
the Metropolitan force's SO18 Aviation branch, which patrols
Heathrow, bought the inch-square badges. A major campaign
has been launched with a petition to the Prime Minister. Surely this
daft example of political madness must end and citizens
should be allowed to wear the flag of their country with pride,
especially as it is being done to support the troops in
Afghanistan.
If you care then please take five minutes of your time to sign the
petition at: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/PoliceUniform.
