Pay for an indy diagnostic or buy Carly?

Hi all,

As many seem to have at the moment I too have the 3 lights of ABS death on my dash. I've connected up INPA and got a bunch of codes, but I find it a bit unclear as to the errors and have had no luck after posting up the results on here.

My question is should I pay £59+vat to have my local German Indy to a full diagnostic for me, or should I spend the money on investing in the full Carly solution?

Will Carly give me a neater output for a novice to understand? Is the Android app/dongle combo reliable?

Thanks in advance!

Greg

Where did you post the codes???

INPA is very clear with the codes for the ABS pressure sensors so if you are just getting more generic ABS codes such as 5DF0, 5DF1 or 5DF5 then just send it to the likes of ECU testing and they will sort it for you no problem.

Carly isn't great for diagnostics to be honest. INPA/ISTA is what you want but is a pain to install.

Thanks all. Maybe I'll give INPA another bash. It's a nightmare to uninstall/reinstall so I'm going to to format my machine and start again. It's been in dire need of it for a while so this gives me an excuse to do so!

Regardless of the problem id be finding a different Indy if they charge you £59 + vat to effectively tell them how to repair your car  never could get my head around that .

I would be surprised if your local German indie isn't using INPA or DIS anyway... If you already have the codes, they should be able to tell you what the problem is and quote to fix it without charging you....

Hey, I posted them here...

https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=104411&p=1532810#p1532810

To be fair though I think they're probably incomplete looking at it. I'm going to start everything afresh tonight

In a word..... YAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I downloaded "mike's BMW tools" and the version of INPA included in it had all the developer options that I didn't have with my previous version and I was able to recalibrate the steering angle sensor in seconds and all my ABS lights went away!

No unit or sensor issues seemingly so I got off lightly!

Thanks all
