pathetic washer jets!

Hope someone can point me in the right direction....

When I pull the washer lever the water is released from the jets but the stream is weak! The water just about reaches the bottom of the windscreen on the first 'burst' and sort of trickles like a bubbling brook thereafter.

The jets aren't blocked as far as I can tell and the water bottle is pretty full.

Any ideas why this is happening or how to solve? Is there a pump that might be kaputt or something like that?

Ps its on an e46 2005 but I guess the same system is on the e85/6.

On the E85 there are spaces for two pumps on the reservoir that can be removed to gain access to filters. If the filters block you'll get a reduced flow. IIRC the larger is the headlamp washer. Obviously if you don't have headlamp washers you'll just have the one.

There was a thread on here about cleaning them out, they're easy to remove on the zed, no idea on a 3er

Cheers stuart, that was just the thing I was hoping to hear. Will have a look for the filter and give it a clean! :thumbsup:
 
While you have the pump out run a hose though the washer bottle to clean out any more gunk in the bottle.

And if the reservoir is full, you're going to have a mess on your hands. Put a tray underneath the car as you will get a few litres all over the place. Don't forget to rinse off any spillage from the car.

Will do. Not looking forward to seeing what comes out of it though.....
 
Had this problem on my last Z4.
Washer fluid tends to start gelling in the bottle over time and so clogs the filter (if there is one) or the pipes up to the nozzles. If you don't use the washers much it starts to get a little stagnant in the bottle, so best to use them on a regular basis.
