Passenger Window

I've seen quite a bit of discussion on here regarding changing window regulators - the thought scares me due to lack of know-how about air-bags and associated warning lights, so I'm likely to head to the garage.

BUT I've not seen the issue I have described: my passenger window will only go up or down by about 1-2 inches - can anyone advise if this is terminal or can be retrieved with a bit of fettling by my garage?

Should I go expecting labour only charge or labour AND replacement mechanism?

Anyone had this done in South East England recently and can advise a typical cost?

i had to do my passenger window regulator and it was not that bad to do,
if you can get to guidlford i will give you a hand. :thumbsup:

That's a great offer thank you - does it sound to you like I need to replace the mechanism or is it greasing/adjustment?
 
well on mine i heard it make a crunching sound when putting window down which was the cable threading and twisting,but if yours is only dropping for a couple of inches i don`t think its that unless the cable is stuck in the mechanism , can you still here the motor running when pressing the window button,this is a long shot but have you tried doing the window reset http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=196
i doubt its this but give it ago.

these ones dont come with the motor but as long as its not your motor that is not at fault you can use your one on it ,its undo and bolt on job.

So much for my mechanical tinkering......I've now got it stuck open. Off for an emergency garage trip before it rains.

UPDATE: Slammed the door enough times and the window inched up to closed & water-tight!
 
Just had to call from the garage......£135 for a new regulator, plus a couple of hours labour. c£300 all in! Not a good start to the refurb.....

..and that's not even BMW themselves. I should have spent the petrol/time and driven over to Guildford!

Next investment due is a new dimmable wing mirror - I dread to ask that price....
