Passenger side Xenon headlight needs replacing!

Hi all! I stumped up the cash about 2 weeks ago to buy my first Z4! 2003, Grey 2.5i Manual. Been driving it and loving it.

However this is where the issue comes in. I noticed the passenger side headlight was steaming up (which by the looks of things is relatively common.) I read some fixes, for example, take a hair dryer to the back to try and dry it out etc etc which I did and I thought all was well. Until recently my xenon headlight had gone out and I thought it was just the bulb. But after taking it to a friend who is in car electronics, he told me the whole unit needs replacing as there is a lot of water damage. Just my luck!

So I was wondering if anyone here could recommend a Z4 spare parts dealers which could sort me out. BMW want around £800 so i'm thinking second hand?

Any news is good news!

cheers in advance guys.

Skibby - welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about the problem.
I assume private purchase else back to the dealer??

Ebay is the best source. You'll most likely be looking for a prefacelift, black inner with amber indicator. Not too rare.

Well I got it from a dealer but their "warranty" is that they will pay for labour and I have to actually get the part.

I was told that if I get a new one apparently it doesn't come with a power supply (most likely not the correct term) which is on the bottom of the headlight, so advised to get a second hand one?

eBay had a passenger one for c.£295 ish if I remember right. Don't know if it's still there though. They come up every now and again. Prices vary quite a bit

New xenon light units from the dealer do not include bulb, ballast or igniter. New that and light would be about a grand, so you would swap all your esisting bits over, unless tested as faulty. You'd better get your old one working until one comes up on eBay at a good price or start calling breakers.

Skibby - welcome to the Forum and sorry that your first posts are to report a problem. never heard of a warranty that only pays for labour. The vehicle when sold should have been fit for purpose - suggest a frank discussion with the selling dealer with regard to the defect.

Cheers for your help guys! Amazing response :)

I think I have found all the parts I need. I've lined up (All ebay shops):

A new headlight - £350

Ballast - £80

Ignitor - £60

The bulb apparently is still in tact. Is there anything else i'd need?

Thanks again for all your help.

Okay well thanks for looking Billy.

Does anyone know whether the Headlight assembly includes xenon motors? As I can't seem to find any info on them from google.

Cheers in advance.
