Passenger side window is.. err... loose?

Not sure how to explain this clearly, but I'll give it a go.
(I also THINK I know what it is, but don't want to take the doorcard off to confirm.. my wallet cant deal with the £££!)

So, when I press the down switch for the passenger window, the window stays absolutely still and an evil grinding sound comes from within the door panel.
Same goes if I press the up switch.

With the car door open, or the window already partly down, I can freely push/pull the window pane up and down in the frame.
When the door's closed, the roof up and the window fully up, you can't move the window pane at all - but I think that's just pressure from the roof seal.


I'm expecting the answer is that regulator needs to be replaced... as I don't believe the cable can be changed seperately?
 
could be something simple .... like a screw thats fallen out ....there's a post on here somewhere about that.
Takeing a door card out isn't a big job ..... its worth a look.

It were me that posted about the screw falling out ;)
It's definately not that, as the noise is a horrible grindy noise :/

I'm 99% sure it is, but I am loathe to take it off and find it's the regulator... Just don't want the bill lol
 
I have just tried to open my passenger window,

Bang and the glass is now hanging lose. It appears to have come of the mechanism.

Any thoughts?
 
There's two possibilities imo:

1: The bolt that holds the window in place has come undone. You can test this by trying to close the window using the motor.. as it reaches the top, it should put force against the pane holding it in place

2: The regulator cable has snapped. You're likely to hear a grinding noise inside the door as the motor churns round the broken cable and no matter how long you hold the switch in the "closed" position, the motor keeps on turning.


of course, there may be others, but I've experienced both of the above and that was my symptoms.
I'm hoping that you've got number 1, as that's really easy to fix (take door card off, find loose bolt in the bottom of the door, re-attach bolt)
 
Thankfully it was a number one!

5 minutes to remove the door card.
30 minutes to remove the membrane (very messy).
20 minutes of fiddling to re attach the lost screw.
5 minutes to refit the door card.
