Passenger side roof drain

Hi all, iv just tried cleaning my drains out and found my passenger side one isnt draining away. Iv took the black plug out at the bottom and iv also pushed some wire with a knot on the end up to unclog any gunk up the pipe but i can still see standing water from the top and no water is coming out the bottom. Im not really sure what else i can do other than keep poking around from the bottom?

Has anyone else had this problem before?

I would try and push from the top down otherwise you are just forcing any blockages into a dead end effectively.

the problem is its the side with the roof motor and i cant get to the drain hole, from the write ups iv read you can only try and unblock it from the bottom of the car

You could try this..... no idea if it would work though

take out the roof floor thing, with the 4 clips,
get into your boot (yes you can fit) and put your hand along the side, you can now feel the roof motor and all that gubbins...
get a coat hanger, or plastic tubing or somethign and prod at it from that way?

worth a try...

worth a try, cheers! Iv managed to get water to come out the drain now but it still seems like theres some water not draining away, it seems like the drain isnt right at the bottom?

I have this same problem but on the drivers side. Can't seem to unblock the drain. Anyone got any tips? BMW say they would need to remove the roof at a cost of £400!!

How about a thin pipe up the drain hole, taped to your vacuum cleaner and suck the junk out

My indie, Chaterhouse Garage, Godalming, does a drain hole check and clear as part of every Z4 service he gets in.

as said before, either go in from the bottom with a hoover, or go in from the top with a hoover..

you dont need to remove the roof,

Hmm, looks like i'll have to rig up some kind home made attatchment to the dyson, should be fun, lol
Any idea how thin the pipe has to be to fit up the drain hole?

If you have access to a compressor and a fine nozzle gun, that worked a treat for me, cleared it in seconds. apart from that, do they still sell wired pipe cleaners :D

Compressor blows air though - or are you getting to it from the top?

Just noticed you dont even need to take off the back cover, just sit in the passenger seat and look over your shoulder!

you can get at the drain that way..

The drain hole is 15.5mm

did mine today, passenger side had a pool of water when viewed from above,
Fitted short piece of garden hosepipe to hoover pipe with duck tape, and held onto bottom of drain pipe under wheel arch after removing access panel and flappy thing on bottom of drain,
This sucked all the muck out, and I also got a hoover full of water
Flushed with clean water from above and then flushed with WD40 too.
Drivers was clean so just flushed with water then WD40.

I did the drivers side last weekend. To unbock the drain hole ,i split a length of 3 core electric cable, the flat type of cable you use on electric installations (about 15 in) and it cleared the blocked drain a treat from the top. If i remember wright poke the cable down just in front of were the roof folds.Passenger side next
