Passenger seat won't recline

Did you manage to get the outside cover off?

Nah, not yet. It just doesn't want to come loose/I dont want to use too much force to take it off. Because of the gear position of the recliner is such an awkward spot it looks like I have to really reduce the seat to its bare bones.

Part numbers seem similar to E46 seats, so I might buy one on the cheap and see if I can swap over the base.

Think I would do that before going to the stealers as it will probably be cheaper.

There were some electric z4 seats on here the other day which were listed on eBay for low money which would be an easy swap.

Final attempt for some help before I bite the bullet and ask BMW :(

I'm out of the country at the mo but if you fancy a drive over to me I'll take a look, can't promise anything but it's an extra pair of eyes if nothing else

Thanks davegt.

Well, I managed to get this sorted - probably not the most efficient way but I'm just glad it's sorted.

I managed to get a couple of seats off the forum for a competitive price in the hopes of doing a base swap. As I was a bit more aggressive taking in dismantling these seats I found a better way of taking off the side panel and unscrewing the seat. I was therefore able to "dry run" a gearbox swap for the recline motion, so instead of doing a base swap I just able to confidently perform a transplant op.

Et, voilla, a repaired passenger seat (misses will be pleased) and even a spare seat (I have another project in mind for that).

Thanks to all for their help

I'm about to do this exact thing in a few days, I would really appreciate any tips/pointers/pictures etc, really anything that could save me a bit of headache or time.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Hi Kay,

Interesting to hear you have the same problem. I take it when you press the recline function, you hear the motor spinning but no recline action? PM me your email address if you want and I'll take some photos

I have this exact same problem!

I managed to get the control panel off but them I'm stuck trying to get the gearbox out. Any tips?

Cheers

Add a third person to that list...if you did take pictures or already have a typed out list of tips it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Pauly
