Passenger door pops open.

Yesterday I hit bump quite hard and my door popped open, it was definitely closed when I set off but I closed it and ignored it.

It was fine last night but has now popped open twice today, doesn't have to be any major bump just randomly pops open.

Anyone know what this is and how to fix it?

I had this happen once on my first Z4 which was a 2003 3.0i. It only happened once when I hit a pothole at maybe 65 to 70 mph. Never happened again.

Yeah its annoying, it happened for the first time yesterday but now its happened twice today as I said.

I am going to program the car locking at 10mph so hopefully that will sort it anyway....hopefully.

I think the door is latching properly so don't know really what it could be.

Nothing to do with programming to lock.

The body shell is flexing over a pothole or bump and the catch is poorly adjusted close to its limit, so it pops open under flex. Adjust the catch and it will fix it for good.

I didn't say it was anything to do with the programming, I was just saying that I was going to do that tonight so hopefully as the door would be locked it wouldn't pop open.

How do I know where to adjust the plate to if it only happens during chassis flex?

I agree - I'm just telling you that programming will have no effect on it, which you are hopeful. All that does is makes the door handles not operate.

You need to loosen the catch using the torx screws and move it so it's a fraction deeper into the lock catch. That'll fix it.
