Passenger airbag switch

Hello,

Can I ask does anyone on here have a passenger airbag deactivation switch fitted? If so please drop me a pm, I have a question for you.

Thanks

Thank you for trying to help me!

I've read as many threads on passenger airbag deactivation switches as I can on this forum and others, and after speaking with four different BMW dealers this week I've been told I need to provide them with the VIN number of an e85/e86 that was specced with the passenger deactivation switch, so they can pull the correct part numbers for the switch, wiring and light.

They no longer offer the job as a retrofit service, but have said I can buy the parts separately (once we know which part numbers they are, from a model which had it specced). Hence the ask for anyone with a switch fitted to let me know :)

The guy in the dealership actually said 'I'm sure someone on the Z4 forum with the switch will help us.'

Anyone able and willing?

Thank you :)

I’m not sure what you mean with part numbers- can you not get them from real OEM?
The parts are simple enough to source but I’ve never found someone who can code it in.

According to the thread you are looking to find a 2008. Try one of the Facebook Z4 forums if no luck here.

I believe it was optional on models before 2008, so it could be any model from preceding years that had it specced.

I was told by BMW that because my car was never optioned with it, my VIN won't give them the requisite part numbers, as they don't exist for my car. That's why they can only pull the part numbers from a car that was optioned with it.

I'm not sure as regards real OEM, do they provide part numbers for optional extras, like the wiring for this switch? I believe Autoworks in Swindon can do coding, though I'm not 100%.

Checked realOEM and can't find any reference to the passenger airbag deactivation switch wiring.

You said the parts are simple enough to source, do you have links you could post up?

Thanks

The light part number can be seen here IMG_0210.png

Have you checked the wiring isn’t there? The retrofit guide suggests it is there and all the research I have done indicates it might be there.

Checked behind the air duct, is this box normal?

Thanks

Yeah there are two cables to it, I won't be moving it, though I'd be keen to know what it is, if anyone has a clue?

Unfortunately I don't see the wiring or sockets preinstalled, I think they changed the harness to slim it down a bit before 2007 (my year), so I might need the cable as well.

Unfortunately these cables are no longer available anywhere, folk on the German forums have been trying to make their own, which seems a little sketchy unless you're experienced in that sort of thing. Any wiring experts/cable builders on here?

Thanks
Owen

Just been and taken mine out to check and looks like you don’t have the wire. Bottom wire in this pic-

Do you have the wiring for the light? Easy to find under gear stick
