Passenger Airbag Status Light

I recently bought some center console trim without the sport button or passenger airbag status light holes. I'm going to drill the hole for the sport button but is there any legal requirements to have the airbag status showing. Will an airbag code get thrown if I simply unplug it or should I just hide it under the console?

Any comments or other thoughts?

Dunno. I know that any vehicle without a back seat has to have a way to shut off the passenger airbag (for rear-facing kid seats). I'm wondering about any liability of not having that so you can check the status if someone were to get injured 'cause the airbag did not go off and you had hidden the indicator (or vice-versa if you strap in a rear-facing infant seat and forget to turn off the airbag).
