you must be confusing me with another as I have had this for a few years and done a few thousand miles in her. I did save her from going to the breakers yard though, so maybe it's crossed wires.
This is the tin top, the rear window is right behind my head, then the engine and then a boot, so not a coupe as such.
I do have a coupe though, one of these (not the actual car)

Now that is a long term project :wink:

Ah, maybe it was the Triumph I was thinking about. I remember talking about the MR2 with you as well, always liked the Mk.2's and wanted one.

Gotta love a GT6 though! Gorgeous looking car. Thats why I like the E86, reminds me of British "baby" GTs/coupe sports cars from the 60s and 70s, Triumph/Ginetta/Marcos/TVR etc.

2 door? Hard top? Roof dips behind B pillar? You have a coupe!

I miss my old MR2's I had two MK 1's back in the day, wished I'd kept the Mica blue T bar. I had a Turbo import for a day but the turbo blew on the way home and went back to the dealer, shame

Had an MR 2 mk2 rev 5 1999 70,000 mls. Exchanged it for a Z4MC. Would have kept MR2 and my old Triumph GT6 mk2 if I had storage space.

Love the romantic ideal we have driving old cars. The Truimph was bas e heavily on the Herald and tended to handle like one. My 1964 MGB was equally as ancient to drive, no power steering, cart horse suspension, old design engine when new. It leaked, was draughty, the optional heater was pathetic, and the handling dubious compared to more modern cars. It was surprisingly reliable though.

However, despite all that I loved driving it. You felt connected in a way modern cars don't do.

Sadly they used to be commonplace but now getting a bit rare and suffering the same fate as older cars. The rarest one was the one with a Beams engine. My car is an import (G LTD) model, so comes with A/C and folding mirrors, I have all the history from Japan and up to when I bought it.

It most certainly is yes Firebobby, it's the holy grail of N/A engines in the MR2 from factory. They used it in the celica as well plus a couple of others but I can't remember off hand what they were. There were two variants of the Beams, a red top and black top. The earlier red top had VVT-I on the inlet valves pushing 197bhp and the year or so later the black top had VVT-I on both inlet and exhaust pushing power up to 207bhp. They're ultra rare as IIRC they only popped them in the REV5 cars from 1998 I think it was. I suppose the V6 you can use from the Camry is the better option from a power and torque point of view but out of the two from choice I'd put a Beams in mine just for the rarity.

Woodsport did a group buy a couple of years ago for a 3.5 V6 from a yank car, I 'think' it was a Lexus but may well be wrong, anyway, it churned out mad power, around 320bhp IIRC, then a couple of guys supercharged them, insane!! Couple the N/A with a 6speed box they can do would make it a pretty potent car. But would it be too much? As you'll know the stock MR2 can be tail happy, with that grunt it'd fall off into the scenery even easier... :lol:

Which forum are you on firebobby? I wouldn't mind having a look on it, especially as I'm going to restore mine when I'm fit again.
