PAS Light after whack

Hi!

First post to the forum, and it will be a problem! I'm after some advice, if I may.

I picked up a 3.0 2003 Z4 a couple of months ago, and it's been an absolute hoot so far. :D

I've just come back from a drive. Long story short - A Road, jutting out piece of solid rock that had come loose from a stone-wall, and *whack*
:(

I smashed it with some force on the left front, then it proceeded to whack the left rear also. Warning light immediately came on the dash, and everything felt heavy. Initially I thought that it was a pressure light, and that I had a puncture. I limped to the side of the road to investigate. Both wheels have a sizeable chunk taken out of them. (They are 18" 108's). Realising that the PAS wasn't working, I turned the car on and off. Low and behold, the light went out, and everything went back to normal. With no other option, I gingerly drove home. Everything feels pretty OK -- I didn't notice anything hugely untoward.

Does anyone have any idea why that might have happened? Some sort of odd safety thing after the impact, or is the PAS likely to be damaged some how? It's too dark to take pics, or get it up on a ramp to look for bent things at the moment. I might drop it into BMW to have them once-over it. I guess the alignment is now out-of-kilter too.. Gaagha! Does anyone know a good place where the 108's can be repaired?

:headbang:

Sorry to hear about that.

When the car detects a impact doesnt it shut down various electrics?

Was the wall a private residence or public place? You might be able to claim against the people responsible for its upkeep

Sorry to hear of the whack, welcome to the forum!

When all is settled down, get yourself on the map!

my guess would be that the PAS since electric has some kind of shutdown feature on it when is senses abnormal movement ?

I've had that just once, the day I bought it!! I hadnt hit anything just started it with wheels at full lock. Stopped, turned it off for a few minutes, started it, not problems since.

I think it may be your steering angle sensor. if you've smacked both axles it's more than likely you've knocked it out enough for the car to detect the misalignment.
