Parts from Germany Post Brexit

Hi Guys

I'm thinking of buying some original parts for BMW from Germany (Pierburg electric water pump, thermostat etc) trying to save on UK prices and just wondered if there will be any problems post Brexit such as delivery delays, extra charges etc. Anyone imported parts recently and had problems?

Thanks

I've used Autodoc twice recently for full front and rear suspension refresh, price you pay is what you see at the time of ordering, no extra import duty. First order took 10 days until delivery and second was quicker at just a week.

i've found that the prices are cheaper when looking in EU as they remove local sales tax because we will be paying VAT when they come into the UK. i'm sometimes hit with other tax and sometimes not. DHL will charge you £10 to "handle your customs charges". the VAT was £3 and the charge from DHL was £10. a bit of a joke really and you can't opt out.

On the likes of eBay, our VAT is included in the displayed price (as of Jan 2021), so no extra customs charges etc... also no chance of it slipping through without charges anymore :D

Autodoc and Schiedman have set up pseudo UK operations so its just the normal 20% vat plus shipping as others have said!..Simple..

Similarly with Aliexpress. They now include UK VAT in the final price, so there should not be any custom's (or DHL) charge.

Hmm, not quite my experience with imports though. On B2B it has been simple as I claim it back from HMRC, but personally I have had import duty and VAT (and UPS charges) applied for a significant amount.

The company I bought it from refunded the VAT in the end as the price already included 20% VAT, and the product was made in Europe, so not an import from China or so.

I ordered a (OEM Pierburg) waterpump and thermostat for the N52 from Germany.

Cost me £224.38 inc delivery + £61.40 for the additional charges = £284.78

So still cheaper than buying from ECP/CP4L etc.
