Parts Differences 20 sdrive v 28 sdrive?

Hi,

As I understand the difference between the 2.0i and 2.8i is the latter has an higher specification crank and pistons.

RX-78 don't feel ripped off - as I drove the 2.0i and I found the 2.8i defiantly worth the upgrade. Considering I came from an 335i, the drop down to an 2.0i was to much for me.

If you are into tunning, like the JB4 rather than remap - (That you can swap out) you get upto 290bhp and an extra 40 lbs of torque - and when you consider the car weighs 100KG less than the 35i it becomes an very interesting alternative.

Interesting Vid.

Better inform BMW AG of this because they believe that all internal engine components are the same between the 18i, 20i & 28i ;)

Well, I done some research, and were both correct

It does seem in the Z4 the pistons are the same, but in other cars they are different

E89 Z4 28i & 20i Crankshaft-Pistons: 11257640166
F33 420i Crankshaft-Pistons: 11258606461
F33 428i Crankshaft-Pistons:11247624616

However they all seem to share the same crack: 11212212762

What is also very interesting is the compression ratio in all E89's are 10:0:1

However in F range they are different - 11:1 on the 320i & 10:1 on the 328i

11257640166 (pistons) is used in all standard compression N20/ & N26 engines
11258606461 (pistons) is used in the low compression version of the 20i engine (doesn't appear to be an ECE usage engine)
11247624616 (con-rod) is used in all N20 & N26 engines

I spent a lot of time finding out what engines are actually used in the UK. I was also told that the technical details given on national BMW websites may be for the incorrect engine variant.
