Part 'Not available in Europe'

For information - in a recent 35iS service, one N54 engine part - a plastic vacuum pipe - was 'Not available in Europe' and BMW took 5 days to source it elsewhere.

:? But they did get one, and 5 days is reasonable for an obscure part....what’s the point of the post..? The part isnt even mentioned... :?

Could it be that some other company has taken on all the spares for the zed, now they have stopped production.

Nothing to stop an OEM licencing a manufacturer on tother side of the world to make OEM labeled parts for them. As long as the OEM carries out quality checks to protect there brand. Often means cheaper bits for us customer folk :)

I mentioned it originally only because it seemed strange that BMW-Europe didn't have parts for their N54 engine, which they used quite widely for ten years and discontinued only recently.

its supply and demand isnt it, if its a part that is rarely needed - why stock it - there are 1000#'s of items across the bmw range they have to keep in stock..
and the point of the post is to share that experience with us and give us a heads up 8)

down the years when i have been forced to buy bmw parts 99% of the time its there next morning, i might complain about the price, but i have never needed to complain about how long it takes to arrive - damn quick usually.

About which part..?? A vacuum hose, where, what, which one..? :?

Unless we know the part how can we tell how long it’s going to take to get..?

They haven’t discontinued at as they are still providing it to you. From memory they have to provide parts for 15 years after the last production date.

im willing to bet if you ask 2 bmw people they will disagree or just not know.
I used to live 5 doors away from the ex managing director of bmw europe, i could ask him, but what he would say is probably not policy today.. as in QI - NOBODY KNOWS ! :o
