Parrot MKi9200 - Not impressed

I finally took the plunge and bought myself a Parrot MKi9200

The reason I wanted a Parrot 1 was because my Business Radio/CD does not show any track info, so i thought i would just have the Parrot connected to a USB memory stick

As well as the Parrot MKi9200 I have also fitted a Parrot UNIKA - the UNIKA should allow me to control the Parrot through my steering wheel

What I have found is that now my BMW Telephone system is not working and I can not get the radio on, maybe it's something simple but my first impressions are not good - urghhhhhhhhhh

i think the wiring is correct, i just think it not as good as i was hoping

i have only connected 2 wires, the 12V ignition feed and the K-Bus wire, all others were plug and play, if the K-Bus was incorrect it wouldn't do anything

the steering wheel controls work after a fashion but i think there ain't enough steering wheel buttons to full control the Parrot

another thing i have just found is that if i connect both an Ipod and a USB drive, the Parrot looses connection to the USB, after weekend i a am going to check with the supplier, he seems very helpful but he is away for the weekend

That's a bugger, sorry - I know you've been mulling this over for a while.

It's worth trying Parrot through their web site if you haven't, I assume they have online support... Dension were very good.

Good luck mate, hope it's something simple that you've missed

i looked on the Parrot site, i have updated my Parrot software and i now can access the ipad, usb and sd card readers

i assumed my new parrot would have had up to date firmware - wrong assumption

Nice work Taz, thought it might be something like that... I had a DICE which was crap, downloaded the updates and it became useless. Piece of junk!

So, is it now doing all that you wanted?

I am having another play tomorrow, I wanted to keep the original BMW bluetooth, that was not working before i did the software upgrade, i need to check it tomorrow

another thing i need to do is try and root the cables better, there are 10,000 cables, very tight trying to get the radio back in

my parrot as been playing up urghhh

recently i have found that the parrot as not been switching off as i turn off the cars ignition

although i have been removing the display i think the parrot remaining on as been draining the car battery (I only use the car every 2 or 3 weeks)

today i have removed the unika, so far this seems to have sorted things

Sorry for going off at a tangent here, but does anyone have any thoughts on the Parrot MiniKit Slim?

why do need to know that for Z4 Beemer? oh I forgot, your car doesn't have BT :poke:

I never really rated Bluetooth until I started using in on the A1. Just wondering if a slim parrot thing would be useful to have.

It's a bit like climate control Navid, but of course your A1 doesn't have that unfortunately... :fuelfire: :poke: :P

Yes, but you get better mpg from the ever_so_slightly_and_just_marginally_smaller 16's. :P

Anyway, your A1 was telling mine that you are not the greatest at parking and have almost scuffed the alloys on several occasions. :poke:

I'll get my coat.

Ps. On a serious note, thinking about upgrading to a 2.0 TDI S line in September.... seriously!

Gordon I had the original Minikit in about 2006 and it was awful, you couldn't hear anything much above 30mph, can't imagine this one is hugely better, although you never know.

Avoid

Argh, Thanks Mike!

I'm looking at getting an iPhone 4S so wonder if I really need Bluetooth, given that I should be able to use Siri for voice dialling...?

Good luck getting it working Taz. I've just got one but not the bit that uses the Steering wheel buttons. I'm pretty happy with mine except for the fitter who ignored where I wanted it and scratched the dash.
