Parrot MKI9200 (bluetooth and ipod solution) - Install

What firmware is your parrot?

I have just updated from 1.96 to 2.00. Since doing this i have found my parrot does not switch off

Anybody else done this?

I have emailed parrot - waiting their response

I tried installing my Mki9200 kit today using this cable kit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320735077181?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

However it does not turn on even when the car is running.

Im thinking it's because I didnt get the other two leads which were used in this How-To..

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XC0451-MusiConnect-AUX-Cable-BMW-X3-E83-Z4-Mini-/220980730084?pt=UK_Holders_Mounts&hash=item33737a58e4
and

Has anyone else installed one, and did they need the other two leads above?

I got all three leads from complex solutions: MC0441, XC0451 and MC9905.

The guy I spoke to there said I needed all three so I didn't argue and didn't try only using the main loom you have purchased.

The loom seems in involve removing the white cd changer plug from the big square black plug and connecting it into the same position it was in on the new loom's black square plug.

I'm guessing that as the white plug is connecting to the cd changer input and if your head unit is like mine and doesn't have the cd changer activated as a aux by the dealer, it needs the ignition sensor cable to work off the parrot's amp.

The cable may work on it's own if you could select the cd changer input on the radio.

If this still doesn't make sense, try looking at my thread on my install.

Good luck.

Hi
I had Halfords install one of these for me.
When I listen to the ipod and have the sat nav running the volumes changes seem to be the opposite of expected,
The volume is extreme when it changes..
Also the remote doesnt seem to work properly ... it requires multiple taps to do anything and sometimes doesn't seem to connect to the rest of the parrot
Halfords say parrot said this is normal with the Z4 and cant be fixed.
Has anyone else had these kind of problems?

Unfortunately I don't have any experience fitting a MKi9200 to a Z4 but I would suggest that your problem with the remote is down to a dud battery. I recently installed one in a 1 series and despite the kit being new out of the box, I encountered the same issues with the remote as yourself. A new remote battery was the solution.

My experience fitting the Parrot to the 1 series and an A3 would suggest that Halfords are talking nonsense on your other issues. Often there are additional adapter cables required which Halfords don't stock. Research on the internet will probably get you the correct answer.

Got around to installing the MKI9200 today, only took about an hour, and here are the results.

What was hard:

1. Feeding wires behind the dash, luckily I had some wires feeding poles which made it much easier.

2. Deciding on best place to put the Mic and Screen, decided above the right vent.

I have actually changed the micropone position from the right to the left side of the display screen. If it is on the right hand side, if the air vent is on all people can hear during a call is wind noise!!!!

What was easy:

1. Getting central vent out. Using a hair clip really does make it easy.

2. Setting up the Parrot system itself.

As StJimmyL has mentioned, I can not get the headunit to control the volume of the parrot once it is feeding into the system. I have set it up so that the volumes are similar when the change happens but it is not perfect (liveable with though). If anyone can shed some light (I have certainly googled) then I would be grateful.

I will be installing this next week.

Anyone knows if the leads from a 3200 parrot will work directly with a 9200?

Many thanks.

Ok installed the MK9200.

The difficult part is removing the aircon vents without breaking the retaining clips.

Once that is done unscrew the business CD.

Install the required harnesses.

Remove the plastic trim beneath the airconditioning controls.

Remove the side airconditioning vent:

This will help the installation and make it professional.

I also removed all the windscreen trim in order to place the microphone like so:

This gives it the best noise environment possible.

To remove the side trim undo the screws from the sun visors on both sides and unclip the plastic trim from the middle (mirror part) and the side.

The following picture is from inside the bulkhead behind the side air con vent. Pass the wires of the micrrophone and of the display behing here

The Display will be placed here for best vision and least distraction.

Then feed them to the blue unit.

Then connect everything and mount everything back :D

Pictures of the finished installation to follow soon.

Hi All,

Can someone tell me if this will work in my Z4. I have the BMW Business CD headunit with 10 speakers (2 behind seats, 2 in door etc)... I'm struggling to find a fitter who says this will work.

If I buy the SOT leads and do it myself, will this work and give me sound from all speakers?

Cheers,
Jimmy

Hi Jimmy

I've got the same audio system as you and am looking at getting one of these kits - which connectors /sot leads did you get?

Cheers

The MKi9200 is the perfect solution for me, it's just a shame that the built in amp is so dreadful. Even the BMW Business HU is better.

Have any of you had any luck bypassing the Parrot amp or using a separate amp?

:D Great write up Hotride, thanks for that. I know this is an old Thread but I have only just got my Zed (2.2i 2004) This is not only my first Z but my first BMW too. Loving it. My car came with a Parrot installed but no remote, so I was hoping it would work from the steering wheel controls but no. :( So I'm wondering if anyone has been able to get this functionality working? In the meantime I have ordered a replacement remote (eBay £34) Thankfully the system automatically pairs with my iPhone and using the iPhone controls I can do everything I need to, just not ideal when I'm driving! Be great to hear about any success stories or advice on getting the controls integrated. Thanks

have the same set up all speakers working with carver
volume on wheel works the strange thing is when you approach a speed camera the volume goes up loudly for a few seconds even with the speed camera function turned off?? :|

I need to get a bluetooth kit fitted when I collect my lovely MC and so I was looking at the Mki9200 - however the car already has an intravee fitted so I am not interested in using the Parrot for music, ONLY Bluetooth. Therefore, what cables would I need to successfully install this and is it therefore possible to use the intravee as well as the Parrot for these reasons? The car has the professional Hifi system.
Thanks,
Nina.

I'm in the same situation. Can anyone give us a hint??
Will only use the parrot for BT. Intravee will manage the ipod.
What if we chose to control the parrot with the steering controls? What will be the extra cable?
Thanks in advance.

I bought the extra unit so I could use the steering wheel controls, I can't recall why but I disconnected it, I recall I did not have a great deal of control though, I think I only had volume up and down and if I recall it locked up

ok, sounds reasonable to get first everything sorted out first, and then later think about the controls.
So, what will be the 3 cables that I need to buy for a HIFI Professional (NO DSP), NAV....and so on.??
MC0441, XC0451 and MC9905???

I got a message from and ebay vendor (Commplexsolutionsltd) saying the following.
"It is not possible to connect a simple AUX Cable to this vehicle.
We do have a lead for handsfree muting and outputting the music from the MKi9100's amplifier."
What should I understand from here... That the Streamed music will be amplified through the internal amp of the parrot?? thats poor quality...
Those of you who managed to connect the MKi9200 how did you shorted everything out so you can stream music through the HiFi system?
:x

Buy this cable:

http://www.justcarkits.co.uk/acatalog/info_84099AUX.html

I've posted this cable on many a thread! Ditch the parrot loom and install this. Mine works a treat!

'You must have aux function on the headunit' if not you'll need to install the capacitor and resistors (do a search  )
