Parrot MKi9000 Install - Issues

Just had my Parrot fitted at Halfords Southampton - 3 hours in total, and what looks like a very clean install with the mic attached to the screw under the centre top of the instrument binnacle. (pics to follow in daylight)

Works fine for calls and streaming my iPhone etc, but.....

It's not hooked up to the stereo! It's running over the top and has its own volume which is not bloody loud enough! Even with the phone volume all the way up, it's not got the depth or range that I want and like.

I assumed it would be plumbed through the aux port of the stereo.

Is this an issue with the installation or have I goofed somewhere and not specified what I want properly?

Other than that, a good job done by the fitter, very clean and unobtrusive and works well, other than that issue.

Any opinions or advice more than welcome.

sounds like a bad install

i have 1 fitted and no problems other than the steering wheel controls

it should be wired into the car radio so when you have incoming call the sound is muted did he use a a sot lead ?

Yeah Taz, that's what I thought but by the time he was finished they were closing.

I'll contact Halfords Customer Service tomorrow and see what they say.

Yeah adey, he used an SOT lead, a 976. It plays through the speakers, but not via the stereo, so I can only use the volume control on the unit, not the stereo. It runs with the stereo switched off.

Photos please!? Let us kno how you get on as I'm looking to put a parrot in at the moment.

don't waste money on the steering wheel control unit

Here's a little project for someone with way more skills than me.

How to make the battery powered remote unit light up!!

I've had mine put next to the tyre pressure button in front of the ashtray, it's bloody dark
down there!!

I have the remote just in front of the handbrake - but after you use it for a week its very intuitive, you dont need to look at it to use it.

As for the install - I installed mine myself - and he has definitely not installed it right. there is a cable (as mentioned before) that mutes the normal stereo and allows the parrot to project over your car speakers. If your parrot is playing music as well as your stereo - this means the installer has added a speaker coming off the parrot instead of trying to wire the parrot into the car speakers.

don't know if I would call that a good job, I mean I work in financial industry and manged to install it correctly in under an hour, this installer does it for a living and doesn't know what to do...

ps - there is a write up in my signature

Iv got mine wired up to the M-Sports Steering wheel's existing phone buttons, Needs a extra wireing modual £20 thing, and Z4's arnt listed but its the same wiring as the 3 series BMW, but works perfectly, its loud and clear.Best mod i have done

It's playing through all the speakers, but seems to be on it's own amp, which is nowhere near loud enough. I'm getting in touch with them tomorrow! Updates and pics tomorrow!

ESP - what module is that? The only one I know of is 70 notes?

forgot what the module is called but it was about £70 so probably the same as your thinking, its the parrot module

its no good on the z4 cos you only have volume control and since upgrading my parrot to the latest firmware these now don't function as volume controls :headbang:

I've got the same Parrot kit (Mki9000) and the volume is right up there if not better than the car stereo.

So you've either got a faulty unit or the install hasn't been done right. The sources I'm using are iPod, USB and Bluetooth Audio streaming from a Nokia E72.

I can vouch for having the control unit just in front of the handbrake too. Works a treat!

Good luck with it!

Thanks John, thats what I thought. I've played the same track on CD and via bluetooth on an iphone ( volume turned right up ) and the volume isn't even close.

I spoke to Halfords Customer Service and the idiot on the phone was as helpful as a chocolate teapot.

Worryingly, Parrot Customer Services think its been done right!

this is not good, there have been a few on here that have installed the MKi9200, you are the first i recall that as had problems

Pics as promised, sorry for the delay!

Cheers for the pics, where did you mount your screen?

I like the mic postion, not seen it done like that before.

No screen, the 9000 doesn't come with one, I didn't want or need it. I use my phone as my satnav too, so its on a cradle mount on the screen.

hi i hope you are well.

im looking to get a parrot too - i want to be able to connect my galaxy note 2 to my z4 (2005) which has the carver stereo so i can play music direct from the phone and also make calls. i was looking at the MKi9000 - but having read this thread im a bit concerned - can someone let me know if:

1) the MKi9000 actually uses the cars stereo amp and not a built in amp
2) what the convertor is to be able to use the steering wheel buttons to control volume etc.

cheers!
