Parking Sensors intermittent fault

I have a bit of annoying problem with my rear parking sensors. Half of the time they work as they should but the other times there's the long single beep indicating there's a fault. I've searched the form and found numerous posts with parking sensor issues and I've checked there's a ticking noise on the sensor itself and there is on all 4 sensors, even when there's a fault so I don't know where the problem may lie?

Any ideas before I start ripping the bumper off!

Hi, my one does this, not all the time, but can be annoying. I was told to try removing the bumper and giving the connections on the back, a clean up. Also check the connections to the unit in the boot.

Thanks for this. Where is the unit situated in the boot?

I think it's on the drivers side, above the battery, behind the carpet.

Actually found this useful guide. Will have a look again tomorrow. http://www.unofficialbmw.com/images/6182EN.pdf

It's no 2 on the drawing, above the battery, behind the carpet :P
