sorry i'm goung to say this. I think you are being melodramatic saing it has "devalued your car" and the topic is getting a boring
lets put the chronology down
you didn't order PDC then from the factory,
the car came without hill assist.
people have made a meal overthe absence of Hill Assist to see what they can get out of BMW as "goodwill", making out they were scammed, duped, ripped off etc over a small oversight on what is a nice to have (but non essential) item.
BMW offered you PDC retrodit as a goodwill gesture.
You insisted on front & rear, dispite there being no retrofit
They do it FOC, but there is a problem with a box (which they change)
You are not happy.. :headbang:
will you ever be? :fuelfire:

get over it & start enjoying your car. some people come across like they enjoy being unhappy with their lot. Sorry...

I'm sorry you find this post boring, feel free not to read it any more.
Of course this is a forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion but I think you are being a little harsh.

I don't think its melodramatic to say the car has been devalued, I think it's a fair point as a car with oem and flush-fitting sensors, which are far more aesthetically pleasing than the cheap ones they have fitted, will fetch a better price when it comes to be sold. That is my opinion.

I can't speak for others on this forum but I'm sure there are certain members who haven't 'made a meal' about the absence of hill assist but who genuinely have a need for it because of various circumstances.

For my own experience, when I went to look at the car I saw it had an electronic handbrake. I spoke to the salesman about it as I hadn't driven a car with one before and voiced my concerns and he went into the virtues of the hill assist function as is his job, selling the car and the various aspects of it.

When I discovered that the car didn't have it my initial reaction was to just 'let it go' as I don't particularly like confrontation.
However, because of my line of work, it occurred to me what sort of reaction and expectations my customers would have should I sell them an item - from a sample and from official literature - and then when their purchase came just say, 'oh, sorry it doesn't come with xxx, it was a mistake me telling you it did and also the brochure is wrong'. Completely unacceptable.

Following talks with my dealers, who offered just to fit rear sensors which I feel are pretty useless, the front ones are more necessary in my opinion, we asked them to fit front also, which they agreed to and also assured us they would be oem, which they very clearly are not. I don't see why I should accept this.

Also they can retrofit the sensors, the fitter that came out this morning to fix the sensors told me they could. He explained to me exactly how they could fit flush oem (or oem looking) sensors. BMW have clearly gone for the cheaper option on my car, which cost not far off £40k, not an old or cheap vehicle. Part of that cost was sold to me as having hill assist and it does not.

No, I am not happy with the sensors they have fitted. Maybe you would be but I'm not, it's my car and I'm entitled to be unhappy with something that has been done to it.
This is a forum about our experiences with our Z4's and I'm sorry if my experiences don't come up to standard or are deemed boring but they are my experiences and I'll share them.

I enjoy my car immensely - eyesore parking sensors or not - but I am not prepared to accept something that has been fitted, whether 'free' or not if I don't like it.

Like I said, you are entitled to your opinion and you are free to voice it on here but I suggest you don't read this thread any more if it bores you.

yeah well said

well done Carol just read this to many times main dealers think its OK to string us the buyers along. sticking to your guns just goes to show you have to do the right thing. nice one

as for the colour did they supply sunglasses 8)

The dealer came and picked up the car this morning for the retrofit reversing sensors.

Took a picture of how it looks now...

Will update tomorrow once the car is back....

Why not ask to see what sensors they are going to fit before allowing the job to go ahead - may save a lot of hassle!

Hi Alan,

I made it very clear to the dealer what specification it had to be and that anything different will result in me rejecting the car.

They promised that they would be put right as per requirements.

Lets see....

So here goes...

It may seem from the second picture that the sensors aren't completely flush. I can assure you they are and I am very happy.
To summarise, a job well done.

Additional Information:
I was told the following by the dealer; sensors are colour coded to the car, that's a given. But till now all the sensors would also have a black rim on the outter edge.
Now it's an option to have the sensors and outter rim ALL completely coded to the car. i.e no more black rim.

Never seen any OEM with a black rim. Congrats on a happy mod tho! Have you tested them out, front and back, (not sure if you have iDrive) does it show up/beep as expected and turn on/off via the centre console button?

Rubbish, look at the ones they put on mine months ago. No black rims there.
Oem ones don't have an outer rim anyway.

I'm so,so pleased you are happy with them. I was holding my breath for you.

When you run your hand over them are they completely flush or stand proud a mil or two?

Thanks mate. Yes tested them out and they worked perfecly. Only got them on the front and no visual but thats oky.

Ref the black rim thingy. I didn't know about this but the dealer explained and sent me a picture of a brand new 3 series which was parked next to the Z4 to show and compare the two.

I also checked on the brand new 3 series loan car I had which was blue. The sensors were colour coded blue but like the white one there was a black rim around it. You would easily have missed it if you weren't looking for it.

So there is some truth in what they said.

Hi Carol,

The ones on the white 3 series in the picture above and the ones on the loan car also brand new both had the black rim around them. Therefore I guess there must be some truth in what I was told.

I will have a feel tonight  and let you know later

Ah, by black rim, he means a slight gap between the bumper and the sensor. The sensors he is talking about are a mil smaller than the hole so creating the 'black rim'.
Unfortunately I have become a parking sensor expert.

They still look like an aftermarket afterthought to me and don't look flush......sorry. I thought the BMW sensors were slightly countersunk into the bumper? They were on my 1 Series. Still so long as they beep :)

Tim.

They're definitely not oem. I think they've fitted the other type that they showed to me (I still have one here they gave me to look at as a sample) they aren't completely flush but sit a little bit proud of the bumper.
The main thing is is whether you are happy with them or not and you are so alls well that ends well.
