Parking Sensors fitted

Keith get in touch with BMW themselves. I've had more sense from them in a couple of days than weeks with the bloody dealer.
I love BMW's, always have, but I'll never use this dealer again. It all depends on if you get a good one or not.

Nickm has had a good result from them doing it this way too.
Good luck matey.

Don't get annoyed at BMW, most of these issues and how they are resolved are due to how the dealer treats the customer. Next time vote with your feet and buy from elsewhere.

Yes I can second that, the dealer makes all the difference and if you have a bad one go to another although I appreciate distance can be a problem. If you think BMW dealers are bad, try Peugeot or Vauxhall.

My dealer is Knights of South Staffs and can't praise thenm enough, I don't think I would entrust the car to anyone else, upto now and I've had 2 1 Series, MINI, Z3 and Z4 they have been exemplary. Its a shame all dealers aren't like this, their motto seems to be please the customer and they return.

Tim.

Don't you worry, we won't be buying a car off them again.
Trouble is next nearest dealer to me is Benham in Wolverhampton and I just did a quick forum search and they don't seem very popular either.

If you can find the ecu for the sensors you find what make they are(usually). see if you can find any cables from the sensors and follow them to the ecu(brain).Id guess they are dolphin senors http://www.dolphinparkingsensors.co.uk/ may be wrong of course. Also at a good guess id say that your bumpers where premarked behinde for the senors so they should at least be in the the same location as the oem senors which they appear not to be. Best out come would be for bmw to replace both back and front bumper plus the settlement money for the hill assit.I really hope you get the outcome you deserve.

haha, maybe at your meeting, ask the installed how much they charged the dealer to fit your sensors.....

If the figure is less than £350, turn to the dealer and make him aware that you know he got £350 from BMW...ask him where the rest went!

I think some of the compensation packages have been given by the dealer with the help of BMW, so agree, you cant have the £350 as well, but the point here is that they should've used that to help them pay for the sensors, not to make a profit.

It wouldn't of hurt them to say we'll do the sensors and BMW are contributing £350 towards it, but at the end of the day, that doesn't matter (apart from them making ap profit...that is wrong).

Just stick to your guns, say you had agreed OEM and these are not OEM (in appearance or operation or LOCATION) and that you are not happy.

If you could push for OEM looking from this company, what about the location? If you wanted to be picky, you could force that as well.

You said the installer didn't recommend his OEM lookalikes cos of having to stick a bar to the rear of the bumper....does he think that might fall off? If so, then his option isn't feasable, and new bumper etc is your only way.

When is the meeting...or has it been and gone?

Answered here because JDM's thread has gotten hijacked!

Meeting is on Thursday.

The fitter said they have to be bonded to a plate on the back of the bumper and there's a chance they would eventually fall off or if I jet wash the car it could dislodge them.
The fact that the dealer is bringing along one of the directors of the fitting company shows he isn't thinking a change of bumpers is on the cards, they are either going to try and blind with sensor techno science, 'it can't be done because....' or the director has asked to come because he's concerned we will be putting some blame with them, which we aren't.

The position of the sensors will be discussed too.

Yes, it would be very interesting to know how much they charge to fit the sensors. I could do with someone calling them to get a quote, hint, hint anyone?

I just want my p & j to look right, and they need to put it right.
(edited as saw a spelling mistake)

If they try and say they cant do the oem lookalikes due to the risk of them falling off, then just say "ok, I'll have the official BMW OEM ones than, as originally agreed!". In fact, if there is a risk of them falling off, then say you dont want those (based on this new information) unless you get a guarantee that covers this forever!

you've been reasonable in being prepared to accept the 3rd party lookalikes as a compromise, but you originally agreed OEM, which to me means exactly the same components as used at the factory.

I reckon he's bringing the director in the hope that something can be agreed there and then, or to tell you this is the best they can do etc.

As you say, your grief isn't with that company, its with the stealer, who tried to do it on the cheap.

PM me the details and I'll ring!

Thanks will pm you in a sec!

We agreed oem 'standard' so we knew they wouldn't be original bmw ones and were ok with this as long as they looked the part.

We made sure we asked if they would be flush and body coloured as per oem looking ones and were assured they would be, and they aren't!

The company that fitted them have done a really good job but it's just not what we were told we were going to get. Wouldn't have had them fitted if I had known what they were going to look like.

The Customer Services woman at BMW said she will support us so at least we have them behind us if we need to and I will take it further if they don't put my car right.

I'm glad this seems to be moving in the right direction for you Carol. Although without wishing to stoke the fire my experience with the dealership in question has been excellent. Sounds like I might be one of the lucky ones and I totally support the notion that every customer should be treated equally.
Looks like they may require some brushing up on their aftersales support training.

I've had some good responses from BMW Customer Relations recently, including a new leather interior for the drivers side and a refund of the leather option cost, due to a flaw with seatbelts rubbing on the alcantara

It's such a shame as all the dealing we've had with them before have been spot on and no complaints.

It just leaves a nasty taste in your mouth really. He tried to make a profit out of us first off by saying that 'bmw have agreed to fit rear sensors' when bmw knew nothing about us having parking sensors!
If we had agreed to rear only, he would've pocketed the rest of the balance out of the £350 bmw gave him. Very, very naughty and unprofessional.

Kev, thanks again, you're a star.

Unfortunately, each dealer and sales individual can be very different in their approach. Some understand the longer term customer relationship and recommendations they will get if they work with their customers to resolve issues, others are just short term coin operated order takers.

I hope you get everything resolved to your satisfaction.

Thanks, and you're right. I've had the feeling that they think it's a company car they're dealing with, it isn't it's my p&j and a bloody expensive one at that!

+1 good luck.
If there are any if's or but's, insist on new bumpers and tell them to stick their sensors where the sun don't shine

Come on then Carol, do tell. You were lurking around earlier so assume that you have been to the dealer ? Hopefully it went well.
