Parking sensors dont work

I've done a quick search and seems ppl have a continuous beep issue sometimes.

But mine wont make any noise, wont make a noise when i select reverse to say its activated and wont make a noise to say im close to anything. I doubt it will simply be dirty sensors because id of thought it would be a continuous noise if it was reflecting off dirt (not had time to clean them though).

Could it be there is a microswitch on the gear lever which activates the system when reverse is selected and its not working?
Surely if a sensor had failed i'd still get a noise off the other ones and a warning that one had died?

any ideas much appreciated guys

Have you checked the sounder is working. On the trim panel above your shin, drivers side, iirc.

You are correct that if the circuit is at fault you get one long beep to warn of system failure.

Even if one sensor was not working you can this effect.

To pin point which one may be the problem put it in reverse with the engine off but key turned round in ignition. Then listen to the sensors or feel you should hear or feel a slight vibration the one that doesnt is the dud !

That's how I sorted mine on the mini.

Ive not mate, is it near the right leg? Not too sure where you mean?

How can i do a test of it? Probs worth putting it into reverse and then listening to all the sensors. They make a ping noise if they work yes? So if i hear a noise from them i know its being activated correctly and the sensors work..so must be the speaker? Wasnt sure if it made the noise from the usual car speakers. Surely cant be the sensors at fault otherwise id get some noise.

I had the same prob with mine I found the dodgy sensor with the above method replaced it and fixed !

Would of thought that just having one faulty sensor would just result in lots of beeps happening randomly, and not silence? Just going off other ppls issues. But ill try and have a listen at some point tonight and maybe get another Zed parked up next to it to compare.

Quite cheap to buy sensors and fit yourself?

Sit in the car and the panel will be above your right knee. Few screws and it just drops down revealing the sounder. Just check it's propoerly connected.

You can put your ear on each sensor and will hear a regular clicking (ignition on in reverse). It's not foolproof but somethimes shows one to be faulty.

Best after this is diagnostics as there is little way of testing anything other than checking connections and substitution.
Carsoft shows the sensor and location not working and is how I pinpointed a fault on my X5

I'll have a look, who knows it might mysterisously work when i go to check.....i can hope.
I reck sounder seems most likely atm. Or a blown fuse..

Trouble is here without diagnostics you're at best stabbing in the dark, hoping to find a sounder that doesn't click (and they often do when faulty) Sounder disconnected, etc.

Fuse should be easy to eliminate.

Woots - this could be the time to ditch all of that heavy extra kit to give the mighty blueflash that extra bit of 'go' ?

Woot s- went out in the Zed this morning and sounder is closer to your right foot toes than knee. Put your foot on the throttle and about 2" up that panel and away from your toes is where the sounder is located.

When in reverse I could clearly hear it from that spot and can feel the grille/slots in the panel

Hope that helps

Ok so me and Woots carried out some fault investigation last night.

Checked rear sensors by placing in reverse and listing to each sensor for the crackling FINE
Checked fuse FINE
Checked reverse lights come on FINE
Exchanged my sound unit (position near right knee) with Woots and the sensors started to make noise when reversing near something BUT there was no initial beep to say you've selected reverse??

Any thoughts?

So it's the sounder then that's faulty - so seems like a result :)

I get no initial beep when engaging reverse if there is nothing in range.

Perhaps the blueflash moves so fast it was equiped with this extra feature?

Just whatever you doo... don't plug in that second connector to the parking sensor speaker. Curiosity got the better of me a few months and I plugged it in...

Now I get this hideous "Bong Bong Bong Bong" whenever reverse is selected and the sensors cannot detect anything! Probably a 'feature' for the North American market  :P

I really need to unplug it but never find the time... And its too cold

Agree - that is the most hideous noise ever and can almost cause you to reverse into things.

you should invest in a cheap multimeter, you could prove supply to the sounder in seconds
