Parking sensors beeeeeeeep!

Another issue to resolve, 07 M E86.. putting in reverse first time after starting I get a long beep, then nothing, the system isn’t working, what should I look for?
Assuming a sensor is faulty, is it easy to replace? Assume you have to remove the rear bumper.
It’s not that important a job, but I want to get everything working.

Thanks again!

I thought it might be a sensor Mike, do you know if they are easy to replace? If I can get one.

More than likely a dead sensor - Need codes reading to identify which one.

BMW say you need to take the bumper off, BUT depending on which one it is, it can be done without.

Put the car in reverse and swich on the ignition (without starting it). Put your ear right up against each sensor in turn. A healthy sensor will emit a regular ticking sound...a faulty one won’t.

I tried it earlier and couldn’t hear anything, but it was a bit noisy and my ears not so good, will get the kids on it haha.

I had read that before I got my latest E86 - it beeped as soon as I put it in reverse, which I thought meant it wasn't working! :(

But when I reversed towards something near it beeped and got louder and quicker the nearer I got, so working fine.

So after finding out mine worked perfectly I discovered having a "beep" on selecting reverse is an option in the settings!

Hopefully yours are working as they should OP, but maybe not as you expected!

That would have been nice, but no luck for me.
I read that a battery disconnect to reset everything might help, and as I need to try that for Bluetooth too, I will cross my fingers with full expectation of having to spend some money anyway 😃

The most pleasurable mods (or fixes) are those done for free... Just requires some problem solving!
Hope it works out! Maybe its just like Mr Tidy says? Failing that you've got to find the sensor that isn't working and swap it out.

It might also be the PDC module, mine failed on my m3 and from memory I had the same as you, just a long beep.
If the sensors check out ok as described above then look at that.
I think it's this guy for an e85/6

You can usually tell which one is down by vibration. The working ones will vibrate slightly so very gently touch each one until you identify the one that's isn't doing anything. You don't usually have to read the codes to work out a knackered parking sensor. the vibration or ticking method should suffice .

I found the offending sensor, now to get a replacement (saw one on eBay for about £45) and suss out how to replace it!

It was defo bumper off on my M3, not sure about the zed. Reason I asked is that the aftermarket sensors seem to have a different dispersion pattern to oem and don’t work well on corners. You have to swap two around and put the new on the straight. You should be fine though.
