Parking sensor replacement cost

I've had a problem with my nearside rear one just lately. Same symptom of the continuous tone. Thinking that the water was from the rear tyre, I took the bumper off removed the sensor and 'cooked' it in the oven @ 40degC for an hour and then coated the body of it in silicone grease and put it back and it worked fine. I didn't drive the car but it rained overnight (when hasn't it) - the next day it wasn't working again :headbang:
So I think the water is getting in from the painted side. When we get a dry spell (if) I'll try a hairdryer. If that doesn't work then I guess I'll have to replace it as the warning tone is quite annoying.

So what I have gathered then it could be the recent ongoing rain that may have caused my sensor to malfunction? (hence the hairdryer advice)

Or you are about to hit a wall :driving:

Moisture in the sensors can definitely cause issues. The hairdryer might fix that, whether permanent or not is a different thing of course. As it is a free possible solution it is worth trying.

I have the same problem with my 320d on especially damp days. Fortunately my spatial awareness continues to function normally :P
The hair dryer trick works until it rains heavily again.

Where am I going to plug my hairdryer in?

Ruby! :slaphead:

Use an extension cable.

Mines been doing this for the past two years but I've learnt to live with it  maybe one day ill sort it but as you can see I'm in no rush :D

My sensor(s) did this a couple of years ago. The car was dirty, especially the rear bumper, so I gave the external surface of the sensors a quick wash and it solved the problem.

Hope this might help.

There are men you can get to do that for you Rubes! Ive asked for volunteers form here, but so far not one has been forthcoming...but the guys at your local car wash might be more helpful

I'm not planning on getting my hands dirty. Might have already got a volunteer  I only wash it in the summer when I truly have nothing else to do (not often) Usually get men at car wash in Northfields to do it. Been too busy to do that lately though.
