Put car into reverse and just get a constant tone as if I'm up against something! Any ideas?

Should you need to replace one. You can find them on eBay for around £30 unpainted.

It's the same sensor on the E46 3 series. I painted and fitted 2 and they worked perfectly

would you buy one and then change one at a time until you find the dodgy one?

Having the same problem, btw how easy does the rear bumper come off?

If available to you , you would use inpa or something like it to tell you which one was faulty. If not, turn the ignition on, put the car in reverse and put you ear up to each one and listen for a very faint clicking noise. The one that doesn't click is the faulty one.

The bumper is very easy to remove. Three plastic rivets in each wheel arch removed, then a series of screws along the bottom edge of the bumper are removed. The bumper then basically un-clips and pulls away.

Well I know which sensor it is. Guess I just need a new one and to drop the bumper. I've seen sensors on ebay but not sure which one to get. I've also never dropped my rear bumper before!

Cheers for the info

make sure you put the new one in the correct way up it should be marked up on the sensor make sure the word up is at the top or it wont work correctly

I get the constant tone sometimes. Other times it's a rapid beeping. Now & then the system even works as it should.

Tried the clicking test & all sensors appear to be working ok. I suspect the pdc control unit. Got the part number off BMWFans - 66.20.9.129.815 but all the secondhand units on eBay have different codes. I know it's shared with the E46, E39, E38 & X5.

Does the replacement unit have to be coded to the car?
