Parking sensor issues.

Hi

Recently purchased a 2005 E85 3.0 manual. My second Z4 as missed the sound of the first one πŸ˜€

Very happy with car, but need to sort out the parking sensors. I normally get a continous beep when selecting reverse, but sometimes nothing at all.
I have tried listening to each of the 4 sensors and can here a clicking.

Anyone have ideas on next steps? I have Carly for BMW which does not show any related errors.

Cheers

This could be a loose / corroded connection on the back of at least one of the sensors. Mine were playing up intermittently including the continuous beep when in reverse that you describe. I removed the bumper and connectors and cleaned them with contact cleaner. Been fine for over a year now.

I did this to mine too but to no effect.

The control box is known to go faulty; you can find it tucked behind the false wall at the right hand side of your boot. I believe they are a common part amongst BMWs of that age so isn’t expensive to replace. Not sure if the can be fixed; I’ve just learnt to put up with my intermittent pdc service.

Sometimes BMWs pick up their own exhaust when reversing and beep. My Z4C and 328i Touring do this. More of a winter than summer phenomenon though.
