parking sensor fault

i am hoping you can help diagnose an intermitant fault with our rear parking sensors. 3 things can happen....

1) put it in reverse, parking sensors appear to work fine when close to something
2) put in reverse, long beep (about 3-5 seconds), parking sensors appear to work fine when close to something
3) put in reverse, constant beep the whole time you are in reverse until the sensor beeping kicks in

initially i assumed a fault with a sensor, so listened to each one and all 4 'tick' fine when ear is up to them, so a bit stumped now. from what i undertand a long beep indicates a fault, but can the rest of the sensors work as normal if one sensor is deffective or does it turn them off completly? whats with the constant beep it sometimes does? read some things about a constant beep to tell you you are in reverse, but it doesnt do that all the time so dont see how it could be that?

The Zed sometimes is programmed to chime on reverse gear selection, presumably to let you know it's actually in Reverse. As if you didn't already know! Many disconnect the cable which causes it to beep, probably better to code it out, but manually is far easier and quicker (well for me!).

Take a look at this link. This should rule out the 3). option. That will leave you with the actual noise related to PCD sensors. Which will help identify whats beeping when, etc.

It's probably a faulty sensor, but finding which one it is might be quite a bit of trial and error! Best of luck!

I had the same fault. I reset all four sensors, reset the PDC module. Cleaned all the sensors (gently with car shampoo and an old toothbrush). Also had a hairdryer to dry out any moisture. I got another sensor to test but they all click the same so can't figure out which one to change.

Upshot of it all is it works fine now, but will probably come back in the winter. I hate intermittent faults.

Try the above and see if that helps you. You may have more luck.

Pdc faults are quite common had the same on mine cleaning the connections on the sensors cured the problem

I also have this problem, randomly the car just emits a continuous sound when reverse is selected. Other times it works fine.

When you say reset the sensors and PDC module, how do you do that?

When you say cleaned your sensors what bit are you referring to do you mean the painted surface of the sensor?

Sorry, I should have said reseating.
I took the rear bumper off and disconnected all the sensors (gave the connections a squirt of contact cleaner). I also the same for the PDC controller in the boot.

Cleaning the actual exposed parts just by normal car wash and gentle use of a toothbrush. I'm not sure if I fixed it but it works fine (for now)
