Parking in front a a garage

I currently rent a garage for my TVR outside my best mate's old flat, took the TVR out tonight for a run out in preparation for his wedding and returned at 11 to find a car parked right across the front of the door. Not sticking out of the bay opposite, across it.

Now it's not going to kill the TVR to sit outside for a night, but whilst it is outside the Z4 is not. I'm none to happy about leaving the Z4 outside the flats and even less so the TVR so I took the lesser option and brought the TVR back to mine.I quite need the Z4 tomorrow morning to go out though.

In future, what can I do if I find the same issue? I have no idea who's car it is.

As the garage's are out the back of some flats I guess I can't call the cops? Just in 2 weeks the TVR is being used as a wedding car for my mate's wedding and I don't really want to get out to find a car that has been left there all day in front of my garage.

Anyone have a 4x4 and a tow rope?
 
Sit in the car and beep your horn until the selfish c**t come and moves it. If they don't call the police. It's illegal to stop somebody getting in to their property if its a garage or a house.
 
Get a few mates and rock the car out of the way :P . Kidding.

If you've used the garage regularly, you'd think the locals would know it's in use? Were there any properties nearby you could knock on the door of? Frustrating, try knocking on doors next time if people nearby or perhaps leave a note next time (though of course this means someone can't help straightaway)?
 
phone your mate with a Navara and a tow rope.

If you've not got a mate with a Navara, give PC Plod a ring. If you want them to move faster, tell them you think you can smell gas coming from the garage too. :P

Take a time stamped photo then stick an invoice under his wiper for a £100 taxi bill that you incurred when you were unable to get your car out of your garage. If it's a public highway the Rozzers will tow it. If it's private property I believe you can pursue the registered keeper for costs associated with parking issues now.
 
If its not a shed, give the front tyre a good old boot to set the car alarm off. They'll soon come out :thumbsup:
If it is a shed, do what you like they wont care :thumbsup:

Now this might just me being a girl, but leave a note to the owner explaining why it is a problem for you if s/he parks there? 95% of people are generally too thick to think or take in their environment, so it might well be that they have simply not thought about what they are doing.

x2...most people are indeed self-centered morons unaware of their immediate surroundings.....this is only exacerbated when a car is involved.
 
I've left a note and will be heading round this afternoon to try and drop off the TVR and recover the Z4. Hopefully I will only be renting the garage for another 2 months.

Then I'm moving house to a place with a garage under it.

I'm just a bit worried the idiot will do it in a couple of weeks when I need the car for the wedding.

I'm not sure that this is true.

I understand that it's illegal to stop you from getting out of your garage (I think it's under kidnapping or false imprisonment type laws), but it's not illegal to stop you from getting in to your garage (though pretty inconsiderate and anti-social).

Any legals on here who could clarify?

That is correct.
 
Sounds like part of OP's problem is, unfortunately, renting a garage in an area where he doesn't actually live. Is this a block of Council owned garages? Usually people have garages on their property and it's against the law to park across a property's driveway preventing access.

I thought it was illegal to stop a person from getting out, not a car.

If it's all on private land, and there's no specific parking regulations covering it, and you can physically get in & out (you, not the car), then you may have very little recourse.

Police won't be interested as parking offences were outsourced to councils about 20 years ago - unless it's causing a major obstruction to the highway.

A bit of keying might make the owner realise that it's an unsafe area to park his car, and might not do it again :evil:

Unfortunately it's a privately owned garage I rent. When I did live there, I could just pop out then go round angrily banging on the door. Unfortunately since then the block has gone downhill quite significantly.

Can't wait to get the car out of there!
