parking distance warning

I have ordered front and back pdc on my new Z, are the front sensors on by default or do you have to switch them on when you are parking it?
cheers

In my 2011 1 series. The parking sensors come on (front and back) when you put it in reverse. And then stay on until you drive off. I.e. if you drive into a space forwards, they won't be on unless you press the button to make them come on. Would have thought it was the same

Can you leave them on permanently?? I know this might be annoying if you're in close traffic, but until I get used to the length of the Z's bonnet, I think I'd prefer the warning!

Not sure as I've never tried in the 1. I imagine if you put them on manually they would probably stay on, but might not be on again when you start the car again.

They switch off automatically when you reach a certain speed after driving off, or I think if they don't detect anything new after a period of time (30 secs?) Also you can't turn them on if you are driving forward and above a certain speed.

They turn off over 5mph or something like that. Only come on automatically in reverse

if you are parking in forwards you switch on yourself.

No you can't leave them on. I tend to switch them on when I'm in heavy, crawling traffic - that bonnet seems to dissapear into the distance & it would be easy to rear-end someone!

The pro's say that you are supposed to see tyres and tarmacof the car in front when in a queue!

That's showing signs of weakness, allowing some Audi driver an opportunity to switch queues ;)
