Just went in for an MOT, and one of the issues stated was: "Parking brake lever ratchet not holding correctly". wanted to come on here for some advice on what to do. i would imagine that i need to replace the ratchet, or the whole lever if i need to, but some friends have told me that just tightening up the brake shoes at the rear will help. just looking for some advice on which route i should go down, and a method to replacing the lever (if i have to) because i have been told that i need to remove the prop shaft, which seems a bit too much.

Any help will be appreciated.

You need to replace the whole lever which unfortunately haven’t been available new for a few years now.
So, find a good used one or try re-cutting the teeth in the old one.
You can get it off from the top if you bend some metal or from underneath by removing the exhaust and the prop shaft

Old post here showing how to remove it from the top
