Thank you. I'll assume its the parking brake software issue and its purely a coincidence that I've just got the car back from BMW for the vanos recall.... if you know what I mean πŸ˜†

Power interruption / flat battery is the usual causal factor that precipitates the s/w corruption fault

Take it back to BMW and tell them.
This has been going on some time.
Some have paid for software update.
I would demand free if software goes faulty and emergency brake fails.

I might if I could move it 🀣🀣

With thanks for the instructions above, the brakes are now free.

Easy enough job, just a little tight for space on the forward fastener.

My last E89 did this. It turned out the module in the right hand side of the boot had gotten wet and corroded the terminals. I took it out. Cleaned all the terminals with electric cleaning spray. Do not use WD40. That cured it for me. Worth a look :poke:

Maybe, but there are also elder PB-modules driving around with a software bug, that freezes the brake finally. Has to be reprogrammed with a firmware update.

There. But as water this time of year seams to find it’s way in, it’s worth a check πŸ‘

Thanks for the tip. I had a look, and there was indeed some corrosion around the smaller pins. Cleaned appropriately, but alas, the warning still prevails.

Beautiful 🀩

phew, I’m not possibly imagining things. Got mine back from the vanos recall yesterday, noticed there was a low battery light when I left the garage and got a handbrake failure light when I got home. Mine just says the handbrake won’t work when stationary even though it is obviously working, Otherwise the car appears to work fine except the cruise won’t set.

So BMW broke it for you.....take it back.

Very reason every 6 months i get the battery cable recall.
I just ignore it, don't want BMW F****g up my car after 14 years being OK.

Mainly got it done due to a small leak on one of the cam covers which hopefully they have fixed as I believe they had to come off. I probably do need a new battery as I’m fairly sure it is original and I have flattened it a couple of times. I’ve had the battery cable thing done a few years ago with no problems.
