Parking anxiety

I'm already worried and I've yet to pick up my car!! My father is the worst for this, he has an old 7 series which he loves dearly, but my god its embarrassing going shopping, he parks at a 45 degree angle taking up 2 spaces so none can park next to him! I'm more worried about the hood getting slashed, so a hardtop is first on the mod list!

I do it all the time always head for the most free spaces and sometimes park so that i use up two spaces

Only thing is mine must have a magnet attached as when i return to the car people always park around it.... even when there are loads of spaces nearby..... i just dont get that

Only ever park in an 'end' space. That guarantees you can only be hit from one side. Usually I park so far to the side of the bay it leaves me safe.

I often have to walk far to get where I'm going :headbang:

Also only ever park in an end space. This does lead to circling a car park several times or leaving if one cannot be found. Where I park also affects my mood.

As every says, it'll only get worse! And when you start parking in really far away spaces you'll start developing an fury inside when you come back to find some dirty dented s :censored: tbox in the space next to you when the rest of the car park is half empty. You may even consider buying a second car just to take to the supermarket :D

Welcome to the forum.

Hmm so I see that I need to get used to this feeling then. To be honest I have kept my old VW Polo from my student days just for the very reason of parking in less secure places. The problem is that having owned the Zed for a mere 5 days, I just can't stop driving it. Although as I'm still getting used to the dimensions I don't feel very cool parking up, getting out of it and checking how I've parked only to get back in and move it around a bit, then a bit more...

I get like this with my new Mondeo too. Big car and car park spaces fit for narrow cars of the 1980's! To make matters worse, nearly all new cars have plain sides and no rubber strips.

I drive my wife mad with parking, but I maintain that I could park on an empty car park and return to find another car next to mine - probably a 4x4 with a couple of child seats in the back....... :x

I did note the other day that a Sainsburys car park had an area marked out for 'wider spaces' which I thought was a good idea. These were for anyone, not just parent & child or disabled.

I'm working on a small project for temporary parking guards for vehicles. Would anyone out there be happy to pay between £5 and £10 for something to avoid small parking dings?

I just tend to watch my wheels more than anything else.....hate damaging my wheels.....

it makes sense, you have a car that is unlikely to be driven by a person with children which reduces the chance of your neighbour's vehicle being damaged. It is expensive looking so you won't want to scratch it on their car. And most curiously you may have a reason to park over there and so they do too.

I always park between the fanciest shiniest and most cosseted vehicles possible.
I would probably park next to you.

hate parking it anywhere other than my own drive .go away for weekend breaks i have to vet the hotel so its suits me for parking

I'm the same! if going to the shop always i will try and take the
wife's car and when booking a hotel will do a google earth to check
out the parking :D God i'm anal

You guys! Can't believe there are so many who worry so much. Of course the worst may happen but it's not worth worrying about. I don't put mine in harms way (parking next to nice car and have been known to take the odd photo if I've had no option but to park next to a badly parked shite heap) but to park so far from anyone else or to take up two spaces? My wife parks away from other cars but this is mainly because she's crap at parking!

I also do this, and the missus will testify to how much it will affect my mood/ruin our day out.

Nope, we get more paranoid and start taking note of the number plates of the cars parked either side (or taking pics)!

I have done this before
Me too, very occasionally! Usually just parking well away from everything and relying on other people's laziness is enough, though.

Travelling to Homecoming one year, we stopped in Joplin, Misouri. I parked where there was no other cars around and wouldn't you know it, a large pick-up truck parked next to me, now mind you, I was the only car around, plenty of spaces and we have the car in our view. Yep, he opened his door and hit my precious car. We were fit to be tied. Long story short, it took a while, but we finally got his info after he told us to "GO back to California"
