Ok so you go out with the Mrs in the car, it doesn't matter where it is or when it is. You need to find a space for your car to get out and walk :o

This is what I do and the Mrs says I'm not right in the head!!!

1) I look for a space that's away from any other cars, even if it means getting soaked in the rain as I'm at the other end of the car park or a good work from where I need to be!
2) If 1 is not possible I look at what spaces are available and then analyze how other drivers around me will get out of their spaces and risk access the chances of them hitting me.
3) Not taking any chance, you've done the above and aren't happy with the odds....so you leave and find another car park/space!
4) You've parked the car and got out, as you're walking to where you want to be you see a 'safer space'! you leave the Mrs and walk back to the car and move it to the safer space!
5) You're not happy with any of the available spaces in the area...so you keep on driving! :driving: (Yes I've done it :D)

So am I alone??? Is the wife correct when she says I'm not right in the head??? :idunno:
 
It's not paranoia. don't park next to people carriers. big estates .knackered old bangers.vans. Pick ups. If no spaces make excuses and leave for home. :driving:
 
Not alone my friend I think it comes with owning zed, I too do all of the above, so I am proud to also be a member the I'm not right in the head club 8)
 
yeah its paranoia, i just park mine anywhere..... went to b&q to buy lots of paint earlier so needed it to be as close to the entrance as possible :D
 
Its not you thats wrong in the head....

Its other drivers/passengers that are careless feckers who don't give a damn if they damage your property.

You parking regime seems fine to me!

Just been out in Derbyshire for our evening meal had to sit near a window where I could see the car,
I was on edge all the time watching what other cars were doing coming in and out of the car park :cry:

What about when you have found the "perfect" space but it's littered with shopping trolleys? Am I the only one guilty of collecting them up and returning them to a trolley park? :oops:
 
We need a support group. . . . :?

I have a mental library of all the best parking spaces in order of suitability for most of the places I frequent with the Zed. . .

Does that mean I have HAPD Hyper Active Parking Disorder :cry:

It's catching - my wife has it when she's in the Zed too . . .must be the Zed's infectious? :o
 
In addition to paranoia, are current parking bays too small for modern day cars? I think they are ...
 
I have a different paranoia, I also look for a safe spot away from the other cars but when I return someone has parked close to me when there are lots of other spaces. They also seem to park close to the drivers side door at times I have had to drop the roof by the key in the door method to be able to get in so I begin to think it's deliberate, getting the green eye because you drive a good looking car, classic paranoia.

They are, I read somewhere that the latest 1 series is the same size as the first 3 series was when they decided on what size parking bays should be, they have never updated the 'standard' size of the bays even though cars have become bigger over the years! That's why the likes of chips away are expanding so quickly!!!
 
Heh. It's interesting though, I'm going to a school reunion in September which is about 100 miles away. I only have one car which is the Z4M but paranoia kicks in and I don't really want to park in public car parks so have signed up to justpark.com (I've found what i think is a decent driveway). I would get the train but don't fancy the rail replacement buses on the Sunday ...
 
My problem is the wife. I've been married twice now and they have both been exactly the same.

They will drive round and round a car park to find a spot near to where we are entering the supermarket/shopping centre/whatever, even waiting and holding up all the traffic to wait for someone vacating a space all to save walking maybe 100 metres. Usually takes an extra 10 minutes as well.

WTF?
 
I never go out in the z4 if I don't know the parking situation, i would never park on a car park
 
Ok here's my take on things.....

I get disabled spaces and generally think the proportions are about right

But why the hell do parent and child spaces need to be so big and close to the entrance/exit? Either you need the space to get your offspring in a push chair and out of a baby seat, in which case the kid doesn't have to walk one pace so the parking space could be anywhere. Or the kid doesn't need a pushchair or booster seat in which case it can walk for itself and again could be positioned anywhere

Two anecdotes both from local supermarkets...

The 'rather large girth' family park their Toyota people carrier in the last available parent and child space and three wide teens roll out. A young mum driving past makes a suitably negative comment to be reminded by mummy 'rather large girth' that 'their ain't no age limit of child parking spaces'

10 mins before supermarket closing (pre all night opening) I parked my recently restored MGB Roadster in a parent and child space to be treated to the friendly welcome of DHSS mum asking 'how many kids can I get in that then' , my reply.... 'Not many but I've tried making a few, does that count?'

How about scrapping child parking spaces and creating paranoid OCD petrol head spaces instead?
