Panic!

Driving home tonight down the Loch Ness road when I hear a strange noise after I finish a phone call and before the music cuts back in.

Think maybe it is something with the air con but fiddling with the speeds / direction makes no difference?

Then with everything off now the sound speeds up slows down with the car. Not sounding like anything I had heard before I obviously expect the worst, bearings, stone in a caliper, wheel trim hanging off so I pull in and the noise stops. An inspection in the middle of nowhere with a wee torch my father in law made me put in the boot ages ago ( thankyou Alan  ) there are no trim pieces stones etc to be seen.

I set off again and the noise is still there! Not knowing what the noise is I pull over again and start wondering what to do as I don't want to drive the car not knowing what the sound is or what damage I could be doing.

Last look under the car and right in the middle is a branch caught in the plastic trim piece and dragging on the ground.

Without the torch I would never have seen it!

Nice drive back in the end and feel awfully releaved but a bit of an idiot :D

The kit bag given to me by my father in law is a great thing with all sorts in it.

Not quite up to Tony's standards with coil packs and belts in but proved its worth.

I'm like you, especially since I had my engine seize after a slight knock developed three hours from home. The slightest noise out of the ordinary I stop and check. Better safe than sorry.

That fits under the 'you learn something new everyday' banner. You'll know the sound next time.

Good news it's a zero cost fix, always a big bonus.

Sounds like you could branch out into diagnostics!

Glad it was an easy fix.

As a late comer to this thread, I'll have to bow to the superiority of the previous clump of barking mad posts. :D

Well depending on the type of tree hopefully it will blossom in a few months, and then really bear fruit later in the year!

No to pi$$ on your stump,
But I had a similar experience.
I picked up a metal brush bit from a road sweeper.
It was hiding in a pot hole that was hiding under water.
So it went splash, bump, scrape.
I was seeing $$$$$ .
But all ended well.

Bumpy :tumbleweed:
