Panic buying fuel again

So for all those gardeners, tree surgeons and other small cc petrol powered equipment wouldn’t be able to use their equipment without first filling a jerry can of fuel :poke:

There is only one answer to stop all this, use Public Transport. I do a fair amount of the time. There will always be excuses as to why people will not use Public Transport. Here are a few to get you started.

  • You are a pensioner and get free bus travel, I have to pay
The kids will get wet when it rains
People who use buses are smelly and are always close to you
I like the privacy and isolation of being in my car
I need to carry heavy stuff for my job
I know trains and planes cover the UK, but I don't like them. I prefer to travel long distances in my car
    f**k that!

Its an odd situation. Initial panic buying, followed by people who were not panic buying, now needing to legitimately fill up their cars after staying away. Meanwhile panic buyers continue to top-up and now see those legit drivers trying to get fuel, so panic again.
Yep, a vicious circle. I went out earlier to get some fuel for the Zed as it is on fumes (says 20 miles). Still queues at local Sainsbury's, so I went back home. Middle of the morning so not commuter time.
I DO NOT DO QUEUEING, EVER! (therefore I may be f*cked) :(

Don't want to be controversial (heaven forbid) but I haven't been on a bus since I left school in 1984.
I've been on a train 3 times in 40 years, though.
I presume you have never tried carrying ladders on a train. I used to use them every day for my work.
Until 2 years ago, I lived in a place where there were no buses for miles and not a train station for 12 miles.
So it isn't that simple.

I use public transport more abroad as it is a lot cheaper than using a car and it actually works. Whenever I have to use it here, it is either cancelled, delayed or smells of Cornish Pasties :D

Yep, that's another 4 excuses. I have heard 3 of them before.

I’ve got a bus pass and use public transport when I can , but it’s only when I can get to a park and ride system.

There’s absolutely no possibility of me being able to walk to a bus stop. That’s not an excuse why I don’t travel by the “local “ bus - it’s a reason.

I'd be happy to use public transport, perhaps you could explain to me how I travel 40 miles from Paisley to Grangemouth at 4 am for a 5 am start to do so?

Those seem like fine reasons for not using the bus to me. They are also often delayed or cancelled and are painfully slow because they stop too often.

I do use public transport in certain scenarios. The trains to London are cheaper and faster than driving and don't have too many scumbags on them. The underground is also OK in a pinch, it's loud and uncomfortable but still better than getting some depressing rattly taxi that smells of curry and sick.

Buses are miserable as it tends to be the dregs of society that use them. People that have phone calls on speakerphone and listen to music through the phone speakers rather than earphones.

Outside of the city public transport is not an option at all. The nearest bus stop to my parents house is 1 mile away and has only 1 route that takes you between 3 towns and runs every 20 minutes during weekdays. I can get into Manchester from their house in 1hr by car, but it would take 3.5 hours by public transport and cost more.

I am not suggesting that every single journey could be done on public transport, only that a huge number of people could travel that way. From Paisley to Grangemouth I suggest using a motorcycle as public transport at that time of morning will involve trains, buses and taxi's. Just to add I cannot answer all questions but I can tell you the 'meaning of life' and why we are all on this earth. :)

You want me to use my S1000R to travel 40 miles at 4 am to work in a Scottish winter.
I don't want you to do anything Scubaregs, but I will say that I used to ride my Suzuki GT500 from Edinburgh to Glasgow Monday to Friday in all weathers including snow and ice. That does not make me better or braver than you, just different.

Not seeing this much here. I went and filled up as usual today, at the local shell station, which happens to be on a main trunk road into Cornwall. No queue. :D

well, hopefully, everyone who was going to panic buy has now done so. so assuming you can find fuel, i'm hoping queues wont be too bad.

im on less than a quarter tank of diesel now, might pop out after dinner to try and find some diesel. the weekend car was fully fueled before this all kicked off so could use that in a pinch.

Result - as the general public is so thick that they don't realise that Super is fine for their sh*t boxes, there was no queue at all at Tesco as they only had 99 (@at a very good 1.36). In and out in a few minutes.

We have 2 engineers with no fuel. Parked up at home. Having to be collected by other engineers, so not really much different in my area of Berkshire.
I could catch a train to work. Its 8 miles by car , as it stands. I could spend a fiver on the train , which would make it 4 miles to walk, on a road with no path, or lighting. I could car share, but no one lives near me. I could cycle, but we have no showers and is about 800ft climbing to get to work . There is no buses, so the thought of using any form of public transport is listed above as why I can't . My last job, which I quit in May after 13 1/2years , I cycled everyday , so its not like I wouldnt use alternatives to the car, but it isnt sensible, safe, cost effective and time efficient. Thats the problem with public transport, as a rule its not for some and cost effective for others.
