Panel filter?

Hi im thinking of fitting a pipercross panel to the standard airbox for a bit more noise as the engine road seems so quiet...I know its not to some peoples taste.

Will i need to consider any engine management or will it be ok to just stick it in there? Or is it worth shelling out and getting a full forced air induction system - if so can anybody recommend one? i dont want anything that is going to suck in a load of hot air. Thanks

Though we should point out it will only increase cabin noise - it won't make any difference to people outside.

I've got a K&N filter in mine, gives it a little rasp.
 
I have allready done the Sound generator mod (removed one of the bits of foam) but im not after loads of cabin noise. Does anybody have one of the cold air feed enclosed filters?
 
The sound generator mod is a little pipe that comes off your airbox and goes into the cabin, you can pull off the pipe and remove a piece of foam to make it louder.


It doesnt really make that much different to the noise just makes a bit more noise in the cabin. I really want to get a panel filter or a forced air kit like BMC CDA or something but looks like nobody uses them.
 
Why does a feed go to the cabin? I wondered what that pipe coming off near the inlet manifold was! Whats it for then?

And why does no one go for air induction kits? Or are they rare as rocking horse poop? Had a davef kit on my E36 and E46, but modified with an HKS 200mm filter. Not the best looking thing, but sound and performance was very good.
 
Got a K&N Filter here,panel type,and as above,a wee extra rasp,and possibly?? a few extra horses too?? :D
 
Apparently bmw did it purely as a noise generator much like the new focus rs.....happy to be corrected im hardly clued up!

I was hoping someone on here would have one so they can let me know if the feed reaches the fron flush so that it does not pull hot air in or if there was any variations.
 
I'm tinkering with the noise generator again...

Looking at different foams and core profiles to alter the type of noises coming in... ie, retaining the bass, the bwarrp, the mid-ranges or whatever is preferable... the main one I don't like is the 2500rpm resonance that makes your head feel like it will pop if you have no foam at all :D
