Panel filter

Looking to replace the panel filter in my 2.5. Whil i'm doing it i figured i may as well go for a "performance" filter. Looking on fleabay it seems that both K&N and Pipercross do a filter. Anyone got experience of these and could reccomend which to go for. Not expecting much increase in power or noise, but if one is markedly better than another i'll go that way !

I went for a pipercross on my TT as they're "dry" rather than "oiled" K&N ones, which, if over oiled can effect the MAF.

I assume this is the same on most cars including the Z4.

I just fitted the k&n panel filter on my Z4 on Saturday. All good so far.

Have a K&N. Easy to look after, lasts forever, but frankly no difference in performance or noise over stock

if you do some research I've read before that the K&N drop in filters allow much more air flow, meaning more power. but it's not THAT much more power. maybe 2 or 3 hp?

after market panel filters dont really add anymore power on there own,in fact you somtimes have a drop in power and can make the engine run lean which is not good!iv'e seen people buying £60 plus filters putting them on their cars then putting their car on a rolling road expecting between 10 to 15 bhp gains and in fact the cars have made less power than with the stock filter.after market filters do work very well with other mods,ie after market exhausts and the ecu tweeked but not as an instant bhp gain :(
best of luck anyway :D

Echoes my belief totally. I just fitted it as a member sold his Zed and passed it onto me and I had an oiling kit already. Next service off it comes and back with an OEM paper.

K&N and others are hardly likely to advertise that it works well in conjunction with other mods, but may make no improvement, may let more particles in, needs maintenance of cleaning and oiling and costs 10x standard part price....
