Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100

Anyone have one of these, interested in your thoughts?

It gets consistently good reviews in its segment and there is currently a promotion with: £50 cash back, free case and 5 year warranty, all included.

I'm looking for a good quality compact size camera to take with me on my many work trips abroad and for holidays.

At the moment I'm between this or going for a ILC like the Sony A6000, which would give me some further lens upgrade options in the future over the standard kit lens.

Over Christmas I bought the Panasonic Lumix DMC - LX60 with £60 cashback.

I was considering buying a DSLR or a bridge camera as I fancied spending time (now early retired) taking more photos.

After a great deal of looking about it all came down to portability and ease of use. My wife will be using the camera in the Zed on runs and she felt that a DSLR would be too bulky and awkward to use and the bridge cameras too bulky. Also I was advised that the LX60 had the best stability system, apparently a 5 axis system(?). This was demonstrated by the salesman waving the camera about and clicking the shutter - about 7 out of 10 shots were crystal sharp and only 2 or 3 blurred. The LX 60 also has the option to override settings, has gps and wireless and a viewfinder.

The 30x optical zoom is amazing as is the 60x digital, surprisingly. My son (who is a bit of a photo amateur and uses Nikon equipment) is very impressed.

Image wise I'm still undecided. I think the quality is on par with our Canon IXUS (which was very good) but I expected even better - still experimenting at the minute (my son thinks the results are good). I think the LX100 has a larger sensor so should be even better.

And - the stability system does work very well in the Zed when we are on the road.

:driving:

I've actually gone for the Sony A6000 as I found a good deal at £424.99 delivered with the 16-50 kit lens. Already looking at the the SEL1670Z Vario-Tessar T* E 16-70mm as a potential future lens upgrade :-)

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100

Have read a couple of reviews on this camera over recent weeks, has come out extremely well!!

I'm sure there's a review in Which or What camera this month.......I read it in Tesco a few days back. It came out top in what it was compared with. They really rated it.

For me.....I'm going from the DSLR route to CSC and either a Fuji X-E1 or X-E2. Although to carry I'm guessing these are bigger than the LX100?

Cheers

Thanks, this is definitely at the top of my list of upgrades at the moment.
It was on a lightning deal for £549 last night - will probably be on again in the coming days :)

Brilliant - was just about to post for this.

I'm tossing up between this, and the Sony RX100 Mk3 (shame the Mk4 isn't out yet.. i imagine it'd be a good option). Any budding photographers have any opinions? The sony is smaller, so more portable, but the RX100 is better it seems, and i'm coming from an SLR, rather than upgrading from an iphone/compact. Am i more likely to get on with the manual controls i'm used to?

Temporarily, this will be replacing my old 400d i just sold, though seeing how cheap things like 50/60d's are, i may buy a new body again to pair with my 18-200mm IS. Primarily this will be used for holiday shoots (south america + mexico coming up, china next year..), and things like goodwood/car shows/weddings etc.
