Paintshield paint protection

what exactly does it do and is it any good? Especially for protecting against stones, chips, etc, etc

If you mean the coating supplied typically by dealers It helps dealers increase profits on car sales, makes lazy owners believe there paint is protected and makes any future paint repairs or detailing more diffcult.

Perhaps you can tell I'm not a great fan of it and have been recently subject to intensive Jaguar dealer selling tactics on 2 XF's I've purchased....

I have a foreign based teflon like substance which does indeed prevent stonechips from happening (unless they are too bad as I have 1 stone mark on the front bumper now - but 4 years without a single one).

The UK based treatments are indeed not worth anything, but I did pay about €600 for mine which does mean never waxing the car. In case of accident damage, they do re-apply for free as you have a lifetime warranty (except a long way to travel ...).

Paintsheild as I know it is the clear plastic protective sheets that you apply to the areas of the car that get the most attention from stone chips etc, you often find it on the rear quarter just in front of the rear wheels, but I know there's a company out there that produce the kit that's model specific, trouble is I can't remember what they're called :headbang: :headbang:

Sure - if you mean the 3M plastic film then it's very good. I have buddies with this stuff and it's all in the fitting.

Just had full front kit & sills installed on my E89 Z4 by Paintshield in Peterborough & have to say they did a great job on my film installation.
Not cheap but worth it if you are going to keep the car for any length of time.
When my Z was in they also had a ferrari 430 scuderia & a new Bentley cabriolet in for protection film.
They do a lot of high end cars in their workshop.
