Painting hub as well as the caliper?

Hiya,

I am going to be ticking something off my list of things to do on my Zed this week. Painting the calipers.

I have gone for black.

Can I paint the hub as well? Because they look pretty rubbish. I read something about not painting the actual mating surface though right?

I got the paint etc quite a while ago but never had time to do it until now!!

This is a job on my list too. Please post pics when you are done. Are you painting them in place or partially disassembling?
You can certainly paint the hubs. As you say, just keep paint off the mating face; treat that with a thin coat of anti seize instead. Some people even paint the edge of the disk as well to avoid that rusty lip.

Some photos on page 5, here https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=112593&start=60

A lot of new disks come pre painted now. I’ve just replaced all 4 discs & sprayed the prior to fitting, your first drive will very quickly remove this and leave a nice clean ring around the outer & inner part of the Disc.
I used this to spray them, it cures with heat
hycoat vht satin silver .

I've decided to paint while on the car and gone for Estoril Blue, see below

I'd love to remove the rust from the brakes...any suggestions?

Mine came from here https://www.garagistic.com/products/brass-brake-ate-caliper-guide-bushing-set-e30-e36-e46-e92

From a time when I travelled to the US frequently

Will definitely try and take pics! And yes I am keeping them on the car so this will be done as best I can without removing them from the car at all.

I've got a wire brush, wire block thing and some "paint prep" wipes to clean it all up first.

Hoping to start it tomorrow. Problem I have is that my car is parked in the street, currently outside the front door luckily, but it makes things quite difficult!

Plus I'm gonna have to find some way of putting the car up an inch or two as my cheap Halfords jack doesn't fit under the car like it did my old (newer!) Corsa.

Drive on to a couple of pieces of timber if you have any, scaffold boards work a treat cut to length and staggered on top of each other to form a stair case affect. I have a set of these

Frustratingly, before the lockdown I was going to borrow a set of caravan/motorhome "levelling ramps" from work. (I seel them for a living, or I did until all this furloughed me!)

I'll have to make use of the old broken fence bits I have laying around!
