Painting Front Grill slats with Hammerite?

Hi guys,

I have some hammerite leftover and was thinking about painting the grill with it. I would keep the outer grill chrome, and the slats black.

Anyone done this? I'm more inclined to opt for the black hammerite in a spray can to be honest as it would give a smoother finish i think. I'll then clearcoat it...

What you guys think? I cant justify paying £60+ for a black grill..

I would get some satin black spray paint rather than hammerite, it will give a much better finish, but I'd also get some primer.

Good point,

but i was thinking the hammerite would be less prone to chipping? :?

DON'T DO IT.......! Try a spray at least.

The grey slats usually look much better anyway though it can depend on the colour of the bodywork.

why not buy it and sell your (i assume) silver one, £60 for new one plus £25 - £30 back on your old one, i did it when i changed from black to silver recently.

Living up to your name :) You spend £1,000s on a car then begrudge spending £60 on black grills and would rather paint the old ones with hammerite. :headbang:

Personally I would just post in the buy/sell section that you want to trade silver for black... must be some folks on here that want to pretend they have a 3.0? Woots perhaps?? :poke:

If you do decide to paint them use the Halfords Plastic Bumper Paint leaves a nice satin OEM look to plastics
