Painting Calipers

In continuing theme to customize my orange E89 - i've started looking at Caliper painting; managed to do the grill and other minor cosmetics; not sure if I should do this myself, or ask a garage -- so I asked for a quote.

They came back with between £530-£680. Is this a reasonable price? Google says it high, but a lot of the posts seem quite dated.

Has anybody else gone down a similar route recently? Aware it may be cheesy/not everybody's styling :)

You can paint calipers yourself, obviously depending on how 'handy' you are.
You don't need 'special' caliper paint. You don't need expensive 'high temperature' paint. Any solvent-based metal paint will suffice (hammerite smooth is good as less prep, flows well and it will stick to anything). Unless you do track days every day the brake calipers will never get hot enough to burn normal oil-based paint.
You can even paint the calipers on a 20i without taking them off, if you have a small enough brush and are patient and careful.

Or pay someone else hundreds of quid; your choice! :)

I painted mine and the paint cost less than £20 and took me a day to do and I did take my time and gave them 2 coats.20C13CC3-60A3-425A-9421-4DBB4A938C15.jpegF98A1934-96ED-49FF-BFE6-E7A4EB58FC2C.jpegCF561317-B85B-4A25-93D9-8C4C230FACFA.jpeg

I’m using a local company to paint my Mercedes calipers. Got a price the right side of £200 for all 4! Done on the drive.

I’ve gone to Greg on recommendation, never used before. Work booked for May.

Where did you get your stickers/ badges from, do you have a link please?

Hi , I just got them from eBay but when I click on my past purchases and the actual item it says this item is unavailable but they are nothing fancy and cost £3.99. They were classed as high temperature brake caliper stickers

I change colours like changing socks, spray can 6 to 10 quid. Quick job mask off on car or proper job, off car good clean and full respray. Good time to check pads and general tidy.

Thanks all, going to give it a shot at doing myself after reading this / a few youtube videos.

This guy from Rushden, with Steak Bites and Sausage Rolls may well be where I turn to if my paint attempt looks atrocious

I had mine refurbed and painted by Big Red,in Worcester. downside you have to take them off but as I was replacing Discs at the time it fitted in. Great job still look good today 8 years on, As far as I know they still offer the service today. The total cost £225 no dobt more expensive now.

I’ve used Bigred a coup;e of times..excellent quality of work ..did a full refurb on some used calipers..

I can attest for Bigred (cheers Peter) quality however it does come with the complication of removal. I guess works best if you’ve a spare set.

Yup that was a luxury I had …

“I like my calipers, they look real neat… I bought my wheels to save my feet… if you’re lookin’ for steel with just the right feel then get behind the Z4 wheel”

Nope, tell your friend clearly doesn’t work
