Painted wheels - powder coat vs spray paint - Sep 2013

so, about to get some wheels painted, before I pull the trigger, what's the current (2013) thinking about powder coat vs spray paint?

Read some horrific stories about both, and the potential myth that PC will weaken alloys!

And has both paint/application technologies got to the point where it doesn't really matter - only finish/colour preference?

Or is it actually just down to whoever is doing them?

I think it's down to the shop that does them. Lepsons/Platinum powder coat I think. I couldn't fault the finish in any way

from what I've read, that seems to be a common statement, and plenty of posts on the z-forum about Lepsons, but I'm north of the border

After having a good few sets painted/lacquered the finish was good but it was face only & in places you could feel the lacquer edge on rear of wheel spoke .
Personally i much prefer the full blast & powdercoat product as it feels like a factory fresh product when you receive it back . Also feels like it will be more durable due i guess to the whole Pc process
Each to their own & more importantly it comes down to what is acceptable to spend on a wheel refurb ?

I'm budgeting for the full PC process but wondering if that's overkill/spend as a face only spray would probably do the job.

But, I'm sure the 224s on my Z were face respray only prior to me collecting it and they cracked and peeled within 12months. So thinking the extra spend will save me hassle in the longer run...
